I don't understand this. Rob Ray was the heart and soul of this team. He had great community work in Buffalo. He was a leader. I don't understand why they let this guy go. I thought he would finish his career in Buffalo.

My question is this. Just what are "Future considerations" anyways. Is that like saying go ahead and take the player for now, we'll let you know what it will cost later on sometime?

I know that there are sentimental feeling toward him but we will get something for him it may not be much but when he retires next year we woldn't get anything for him! GO Sabres!

I know I am going to miss seeing him throw his power (and punches) around.
Hey, that means the Leafs game was his last fight as a Sabre...
Least it was a good one ;-)

Listen it's time to rebuild what kind of team do we have now? We really don't have one! With new ownership hopefully he'll be able to right this thing if not then hell I'll be ticked but RAYZOR was on his last tour maybe he wins a cup with theSenators and I'll be haapy for him. That being said just getting something and anything for him is better than nothing or the same! Go Sabres!

I think we all agree with you, just hate to see him go is all, you know how that is.

This team is going down hill FAST !! Thank God football starts in a few months !!!!!

Odd, I remember saying the same thing about the Bills when they hit 3-13 for the season a few years ago. Every team in every sport will have highs and lows... The only thing constant are some of us fans who are in thick or thin. ;-)

Report is that Ray was asked to OK the trade and he said yes. Hate to see him go but it gives him one last kick at the cup so Im happy for him. After the season he will likely retire and return to Buffalo where he belongs.

Maybe he will come back in a coaching position of some sort...

I hope Ottawa gets the Leafs in the playoffs.

That's why they got Ray. So they won't be pushed around so much.

I'd have to say that I feel good for Ray. At least he may get to play a little bit more than here in Buffalo. But, just like all true sabres fans its hard to let someone so valuable to a team, not through goal scoring, but through heart. How many people in the NHL today can say that they stayed on one team for 14 years and took pay cuts just to stay here? Obviously not many. Ray will be missed.

i'm so sick of the mentality involved in trading franchise players for nothing when they are in their dwindling years ... Thurman Thomas as a Miami Dolphin, Bruce Smith as a Washington Redskin, Jim Schoenfeld as a Red Wing, Rob Ray as a Senator ... i'd rather get a nice swift kick in the nuts that have to bare seeing these players in opposing teams uniforms for 2 or 3 years at best.

I understand the dollars and cents of the thing, but Rob Ray isn't your typical hockey player, he doesn't bring alot of skill to ANY team, he offers more moral support and physical presence than anything and I can't see him just offering up those services to Ottawa as he walks in the door and puts on the black and gold jersey. I think more than anything realistic, this trade is a direct slap in the face to every Rob Ray fan in Western New York. People here have not just been fans of Rob Ray as a hockey player, but as a person. He has been more involved than any Buffalo Sabre ever has in this community, and I thought he deserved better than to be dropped off on the doorstep of Ottawa for future considerations. I guess I was wrong.

oh .. i forgot to add ... darcy reiger can go shove his future considerations up his ass with this deal, I hope ottawa wins the cup and rob gets some nice memorabilia from this whole thing.

Again I point out... Rob himself had final word on the whether the deal was done or not. He wanted the chance for a Cup. I think that is all there is to say.

That sucks...just watched him play yesterday.

In the press conference about the trade Ruff looked a good deal broken up and almost to tears when he was talking about Rob leaving. So I really feel that there was nothing more to letting Rob go than he wanted to for obvious reasons.

It does suck though for sure. I am thinking I will hope the Sens get the cup just so Ray has his day...

It would be nice to see Ray end his career kicking Domi's ass out of the playoffs. :snicker:

Literally and figuratively.

That would be great...I'll dissent with everybody...the guy was going to retire at the end of the season. I think it is classy that he will get one final chance to play for/win a cup.

For once if two Canadian teams play each other, it would be interesting.

I'm happy about the Ray trade. He will be encouraged to go out and scrap every night and stick up for his new teamates. No one deserves better to win a cup than Ray does.

I'm happy for Ray in the trade, that's about all I can say about that.

Theres a really good article by Tim Graham in the Buffalo News about Ray's take on this .. it really put the whole ordeal into perspective for me. I guess the initial sting of losing the man is gone, now I actually am happy for him ... heres the article by the way ... http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20030311/1048055.asp?1048055.asp

I am willing to bet that Ray will still retire as a Sabre. Much like in the past football players have done. SIgn back to Buffalo for a day or one game or whatever...
