Haven't posed in a while... but always reading. Anyway:

Anyone else...

1. Think an IMPACT RB is our number one need.
2. Think Adrian Peterson is really the only RB in the draft or left in FA that can fill that role
3. Think that there is NO way that Marv will draft Marshawn Lynch
4. Think that Marshawn Lynch will pull a Mcgahee even if he pans out to be good.

I trade up to get Peterson if he makes it past the Browns. M Bush even with the new surgery would make a great flyer with the late third rounder as well.

Antonio Pittman:

Verdict: Pittman's skill set is similar to Willis McGahee's, but unlike McGahee, he doesn't get knocked out of games. While Pittman will begin his NFL career as a situational back, he'll likely grow into a starter.

Pittman has no where near the power McGahee had. That's BS.

He supposedly improved his stock at his pro day showing more strength and slightly more speed than many intially though. I would like him or Irons in the 3rd.

Not in the first the condition of his leg makes him a risky pick. He's the Heather Mills of this years rb class.

Marshawn Lynch
Overall Rank: 34
Ht/Wt: 5-11/215
Combine: 4.46 forty, 20 reps of 225, 35.5-inch vertical, 10.5-foot broad jump
Pro Day: Performed position drills

Negatives: Lynch was accused of sexually and domestically assaulting his ex-girlfriend in December. He was in the line of fire during a drive-by shooting in college. Of those who did the drill, Lynch's short shuttle at the Combine was markedly slower than every runner on this list. Despite an "official" 4.46, his forties were both in the 4.5s according to both Scout.com and the NFL Network. He was timed as slow as 4.55. Lynch struggled with nagging injuries at Cal and the latest word in league circles is that he has a bad back.

Positives: Lynch tore up Pac-Ten defenses, scoring 15 times as a junior and averaging 6.1 yards-per-carry. He is an effective receiver and explosive, though not elusive. Lynch isn't shifty, and could be a good fit for a zone-blocking scheme.

Verdict: I'm already wary of Pac-Ten running backs that aren't named Reggie Bush (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?sport=NFL&id=3600), let alone those with off-field issues, suspect speed, and injury questions. The argument has been made that Lynch's sexual assault accusation wasn't pursued, and is thus a non-issue. In a league set to suspend Pacman Jones (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?sport=NFL&id=3127) for a full year, it won't be overlooked. Lynch is unlikely to be drafted in the top 20 and could fall well into the second round.

Wow.

So dont have a friggin stroke if we pass on him.

Wow.

So dont have a friggin stroke if we pass on him.

I've been saying it for weeks. He's very talented and we need a RB, but I'm having a really hard time buying what he's selling. He's one of the few guys with first round talent who has off-field question marks. I just don't see us taking him, and I won't have a friggin stroke if we don't.

OK, during his entire 3-year Cal career, Lynch was considered a standup character guy, which I described in exhaustive detail in this earlier post (http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showthread.php?p=1884098&posted=1#post1884098).

Up until January, his only "off-field issue" was when he missed a team meeting (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/10/09/SPGS5F4VEQ1.DTL&hw=marshawn+lynch&sn=006&sc=437) his sophomore year to turn in a paper, which resulted in a one-quarter benching.

Then came the domestic violence accusation from an ex-girlfriend at the end of January.

Here are the facts of the case:

--Lynch was never arrested or charged with a crime (and he's never been charged or arrested for a crime in his life).

--The Alameda County prosecutor, a specialist in domestic violence, declined to press charges, citing a lack of evidence, inconsistencies in the victim's story and an eyewitness, who said nothing happened.

--This whole story came to light when a restraining order was filed against Lynch. That restraining order has since been revoked (http://www.insidebayarea.com/calsports/ci_5361045) because it was obtained illegally.

--I suggest you read this story from the Contra Costa Times (http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/sports/16574906.htm):

No charges against Cal football star Marshawn Lynch

By Harry Harris and Paul T. Rosynsky
MEDIANEWS STAFF WRITERS

<!-- begin body-content --> OAKLAND - Citing several reasons, including "some grave inconsistencies" in the complaining woman's story, Alameda County prosecutors decided Monday not to file domestic violence related charges against UC Berkeley football star Marshawn Lynch.
The decision was made by Senior Deputy District Attorney Kim Hunter, an expert in domestic violence cases.

Hunter said one of the key reasons for the decision not to prosecute was that the woman making the complaint gave conflicting statements in the police report and to officers doing the follow-up investigation.

"The victim's story has some grave inconsistencies," Hunter said.
In the initial police report, there was only a mention of Lynch "grabbing and pushing" the woman. But the woman added other details of the confrontation in later interviews and documents.

One of those documents was a petition for a restraining order in which the woman said Lynch, "choke me. slap me then slap himself. pick me up and though(sic) me in the car laid on top of me with his hands over my mouth."

Other reasons cited by Hunter for not charging the case included no visible injuries to the woman, no pictures of any injuries and a statement from someone who knows both Lynch and the woman and was present at the so-called confrontation that "nothing happened" between them.

The other "off-field issue" cited was a drive-by shooting from last June in which Lynch was in the line of fire.

Here are the facts of that case:

--Lynch was in a car that was shot at around noontime in front of his high school when he was visiting his little sister on her graduation day.

--It was a case of mistaken identity.

--Represensatives for the shooter later came to his mom and apologized.

Here's the story (and video): (http://www.foxreno.com/news/9373149/detail.html)

OAKLAND -- A top athlete at UC Berkeley returned to his high school alma mater in Oakland (http://www.foxreno.com/news/9373149/detail.html#) Wednesday afternoon, only to be caught in the middle of a wild shooting. The incident left no one injured, but forced the school to alter graduation plans out of safety concerns.

Cal's starting running back Marshawn Lynch is a graduate of Oakland Tech and a potential candidate for college football's (http://www.foxreno.com/news/9373149/detail.html#) Heisman Trophy. Lynch was visiting his younger sister on her last day at Oakland Tech on Broadway at 42nd Street when suddenly bullets started flying. The shooting happened around noon.

Witnesses say about five or six shots were fired toward a car near the campus. No one was hurt, but school officials still scrambled to lock down the campus.

(SNIP)

Outside the theater, Marshawn Lynch's mother said that her son was at the campus visiting friends and just wanted to wish his sister well on her last day of school. She also said a representative of the shooter went to her home to tell her that Marshawn was not the intended target of the shooting and to apologize.

The above is the entirety of his "off-field issues."

Does that make him sound like a future thuggish Pacman Jones-type?

ALSO: If Lynch is such a horrible person, why is he starring in a Nike advertising campaign (http://www.jacksonville.com/apnews/stories/032107/D8O0R1QG2.shtml)? (along with 8 other 1st round draft picks.)

Well, that makes it all better now doesn't it?
