Patriots coach Bill Belichick would favor an overtime of, say, 7 1/2 minutes that is played to completion, regardless of who scores. That would almost guarantee that both teams have a shot at possession, and the end-of-game strategy would remain. If the score is still tied after overtime, then perhaps the sudden-death element could be in play.

Good idea, IMO. Much better than the current NFL rule of sudden death or implementing the NCAA's version of OT.

The NCAA's version is as stupid as soccer's. Soccer sucks.

they still should guarantee each offense at least one possession

I agree...the NFL's OT system is garbage.

the thing I don't like about it is it deviates too much from the spirit of the game itself.

Me too. It bears too much resemblance to a seven-on-seven drill, or a controlled scrimmage.

I doubt they go for a full period scheme. The networks HATE OT and as a result, they want to see the current scheme kept. And since the NFL is making tons from the networks, they have a large say in things.

But ideally it should be a full 15-minute period without sudden death. That way each team gets the chance at a possession.

I think we should go to penalty kicks. Get your 5 best kickers and let htme have at it! I would love seeing some fat ass D-lineman lining up to kick a field goal!

Keep it the way it is. If a team can keep up the fight to get to a tie, they'll have to keep fighting in OT. Not all teams who win the coin toss in OT, score right away.
Besides, he's just pissed about the Colts beating their ass last year. :chuckle:

Did I miss something? Did the Colts win those games in OT?

As for what BB said. I think the NFL should go to College OT. It's the best OT.

Didn't say they did. He seems to be looking for early excuses for the next time they get embarrassed like they did that time. :snicker:

Each team should definitely get the ball at least once.
