How dare you get rid of an aging linebacker(with an achiles injury, and one that had asked to be traded) and a backup QB and bring in an actual player that will help right away....... :ill:

OH BOO HOOO we are down a linebacker. WAAAA we certainly can't draft a replacement... IMO Ellison was starting the whole time anyways.

If Ellison starts for Spikes who starts for Fletcher? No matter how you do it, we're short a starting LB.

Oh, and we started a bunch of draft picks on D last year. It got us 7-9 and 27th against the run. Once again... doing the same thing but expecting better results. Completely illogical.

I do like getting Walker. But we're still short LB's.

Ellison at SLB. Crowell at MLB. Rookie at WLB.

I think it's accepted we're going to choose Takeo Spikes' replacement in the first or second round of the draft.

We don't need to adress D-Line in this draft we got 4 starters and a fat pussy in Anderson. Ellison will start the season 1,000 ZB's on it to any takers. OLB will be adressed in one of the 1st 2 rounds.

ROOKIE AT WLB-

1. We don't have that person yet
2. We don't know if that player will be a bust or not- drafting is always a risk
3. We don't know if the player we want will be available at our pick
4. Rookies make ROOKIE mistakes. And it's not like Ellison is a seasoned vet.

I don't know why you don't understand this. I'm happy that we finally did something about the DL, but you don't just replace a guy like Spikes with a rookie. His production, maybe, but not his experience, leadership or mentality.

The team was 7-9 last year.

They also made dramatic improvements after the bye week.

The same improvements that could have resulted in a win @ New England and @ Detroit.

In my eyes the team that walked off the field in Baltimore was better than the 7-9 record they had.

Relax.

Thurm, when I saw this thread, I wasn't sure who started it - I thought it may have been started by Pat Moran/Op/Hhurricane or someone - I was gonna make a point of negging who ever started it like 3 consecutive times until I got the sense of sarcasm from it...

someone on here said the deletions of Spikes and Holcombe equated to a savings of 6-7 mill in cap money...

maybe even right now, Marv is on the phone with Chicago seeking permission to negotiate with Briggs to see if a possible trade could happen.

Well this is the harsh reality of pro football - the business side. Takeo will be missed both on the field and locker room. It was a tough call but have to give Marv and the front office some credit they are going to do it there way after years of mediocre football. I think there will be some decent vets on the waiver wire at LB they need some experience there.

Part of me was hoping they could have kept Takeo and Fletch but there are so many other needs and with the $$ they were going to paid, plus like you said Takeo's injury hard to pay someone that much with a hope he will get back to pro-bowl form. I am kind of excited with all the new players - will be interesting to see how they gel together and who become the new stars.

I seriously doubt that - there's just too big a hole at LB now, and it would be dumb to not grab one more guy at LB before the draft - and if it doesn't happen before the draft, look for us to get rid of one of our thirds for a LB/WR/RB/run stuffing DT.

Buffalo is clearly going after a starting linebacker in the draft, and will probably draft a second linebacker for depth. It's a great draft for Tampa cover 2 style linebackers. Marv sees this.
