JONES CALLS PORTER A "COWARD"

In his first comments on a casino cold-cocking that he absorbed earlier this month, Bengals left tackle Levi Jones tells Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com about the incident that resulted in Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter being cited for misdemeanor battery.

"A cowardly assault by a coward," Jones said. "One versus seven, six from behind. The police report came out and told the truth. Joey Porter did not kick Levi Jones' ass. (http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5956) Basically what he did was walk up to me, get my attention talking trash while his boys jumped me from behind. They plotted the thing. He was shooting craps. I was playing blackjack. He saw me, there was no exchange before he just came up on me.

"[W]hen there are six and seven guys with him, he's brave now," Jones said. "Strength in numbers. I guess he felt like the numbers were with him. He's been doing this for years, telling everyone he’s going to do this to me and do that to me."

Still, Jones won't be focused on Porter when the numbers are 11-on-11 during the 2007 season. “[T]rust me," Jones said, "when we play Miami I have a lot bigger problems to worry about than Joey Porter. I'm going against probably the best defensive end in the league in Jason Taylor. I'm not going to be worried about Joey."

If i were an NFL player, i would let my boys kick someones ass also, no reason to get injured.

But it's ok to let your henchmen brutally attack another NFL PLAYER and injure him for no reason?

But does Jones have a thuglife rep? - it's going to be a very interesting game when the Dolphins play the Bengals this season.

The thugs on Cincy's roster outnumber the ones in Miami - Porter look out!

No Miami fan is going to call it what it is. I suspect when the video is finally released Porter maybe in big trouble. If Goodell is coming down on pacman....etc porter will have to answer. Hopefully anyway.

What that Porter acted like a Jackass, not like it is his first time.

it was a negative thing that Porter and company did. If he's sorry about what he did, then he should be forgiven, if he pays a penalty of some form, then so be it.

im gonna go out on a limb and guess that "being sorry" for having your boys sneak attack a guy who just came off knee surgery in a public place isnt gonna just make Levi or anyone else for that matter say "Oh well.....I mean if hes sorry its cool."

Joey Porter and Pac Man Jones are good case studies will be good test cases to see if the league will put up with all these thugs.

I realize they are two different scenarios, but that seemed to be the general sentiment at BZ after that o-lineman was drafted to the Bills: the guy that tried to take out the DE's knee from behind. Stuff seemed to be real cool when "he really really meant it when he said he was sorry." Like I said, different scenarios, but if Porter has to pay his price, either a suspension, fine, or whatever, then he's paid for his transgression. You'd think that people would then get over it, but I fail to believe that will happen. It's a big time weak thing to sneak attack someone or gang up on someone, but it happened and through whatever means he'll pay his price and move on.

You really think the NFL cares about morals? As long as a situation doesn't affect their bottom line, then they'd probably care less. If there gets to be too much of this happening, then they will crack down (which they will start to do soon,) and make sure they get their squeaky clean image retained so it doesn't affect the $$$$ coming in. I would imagine this $$$ mentality is shared by all of the owners, big and small market, when they're preaching about "bringing in quality guys," if you think other wise, then one is bordering on naievte, I know I've had my naive moments in the past. It's not like I'm re-inventing the wheel on this theory, but everything and everything always comes back to the almighty:
$

for me that gets into a non-football conversation. for me and my beliefs if he absolutely and 100% in his heart of hearts was sorry, then yes, he should be forgiven.

Um, saying that he actually did do it. The good thing is that I'm sure he's still looking for the killer at golf courses and book stores though

Aha! But Butler didn't need a possy to help him. ;)

Porter needed his friends to get the job done. If there is something that that POrter should feel sorry for, is being a COWARD. Be a man, one on one.

No the moral is, Bill fans just want everyone on the planet to have problems or look bad to make their miserable existance on earth seem somehow...not so bad. Ever notice everytime a player leaves, 90% of the fanbase trash them?? Even if the week before they were awsome?? Threads like this are just a distraction form the pain and mysery of whats the norm for Bill fans, even if only for a moment.

None of what I just wrote is true ofcourse (well, most of it), but I figured since this thread and most of the posts in it is loaded with stupid, bias, idiodic crap, why not one more fun to read enjoyable post!?

I find it kinda hard to beleive that Porter set up a beating like that without Jones doing anything...... That being said it............ Pretty classless. If it did indeed go down like this police report says it did than I wont have any problem with Porter getting suspended.

Honestly, I could care less. It's the offseason and it's off the field. There's Joey's side, there's Levi's side and then there's the truth. No one was really injured, no lives were in danger, no guns or drugs or rapes. No one was even arrested. Just a couple of guy's who got into a fight, even aware enough to take it outside, I don't see how the league can do a damn thing about it....big deal. Joey isn't responsible for anyone but himself, what others do is on them. Just like it's no ones fault but yours, that you're a Bill fan and you've had to live with that choice since day one. You can't blame everyone else for your poor decisions.

Actually since disciplinary action is up to the commissioner who is taking a very keen interest in off the field stuff there is most definitely something the league can do about it. And since the players union is on bard with it Porter will have a very hard time fighting it if Goodell decides to suspend him.

Youre right, although it could be worse I could be a fin fan.

I was a fan of Porter and the signing, I thought it was a really great move.

Now I just hope Levi falls on Porters leg when they play next.

Assuming this went down the way its been reported which we will see soon enough, Porter is a punk *****. Fitting hes on your team.
