View Full Version : Possibilities with Robert Meachem

Is #12 too high to take Meachem? Why would we take a WR at #12 when we have more pressing needs? Is the visit of Meachem in Buffalo just a smoke screen?

You would think that we would take P. Willis or M. Lynch at #12 as we need to plug holes at these positions but could we be looking at Meachem as OBD may want to get back into the first round to go after Meachem?

well i was huge on lynch almost all off season but now the only person (realistically) i want to see taken with the 12th pick would be patrick willis. Marshawn lynch and Robert meachem i would dstill be happy with although for both i would want to see the bills trade down because i would want to see them pick up some more picks. I know we need instant starters however if you draft right you get instant starters and stars in later rounds happens every year so if we add maybe a thrid round pick and still draft lynch or meachem we could then use that extra pick for either a depth pick or maybe a sleeper in the draft. A good rotation at one position although not as good as having a great player will suffice for me for one year as i think this team is at least a year away from being playoff contenders. I think come draft day to an extent the bills are going to take the best player avialable. I know they wont draft a qb (except maybe in the later rounds) but other than that they are open to really draft the best player available i mean we still need a cb,a saftey to go along with whitner, linebacker,a real #2 wr, running back and still couldd use another big body on the o-line.

it isnt a reach picking him at 12 but if we were to consider it which i doubt we are even though we met with him i say we would trade down first

I like meacham and everybody knows I want a WR badly with our second pick..

But 12 is WAY TOO high to take a WR-- Unfortunately, marv likes his WR corps more than most of us do.

If we fail to take a LB, RB, or CB in round 1, I'll put my foot through the TV. If they trade down and then grab Meachem, fine...as long as they grab a LB or RB with a compensatory pick from the trade down.

If this is true, why have Meachem visit?

this is a back-up plan in case Willis is gone before our pick. Also, it could be posturing for a trade down- if Marv got word that someone a few spots below us wants Meacham, he could be feigning interest to set up the trade.

I think you are right. It's a back up plan just in case the one they want isn't there at #12.

Why unfortunately? If Marv is high on such underrated superstars like Josh Reed and Peerless Price, I think we can safely assume he will not stretch at 12. I think when AP and Willis are gone, there is no clear-cut pick for Marv & Co. We then trade down.

Meachem is one of 10 WR's I might consider in Rounds 3-4. I realize he'll probably be gone earlier.
His scouting report says he hears footsteps and doesn't like going over the middle. Wow ! Just like Peerless !

I find it hard to talk about anthing else in the first 2 rounds, outside of LB and RB. I wonder why.

Me thinks they will swap with SD first rounders and bills get thier third in exchange for RB M Turner. We pick R Meachem with there pick and Zack TE with our 2nd. This is JP's team and we gave him a line in Free agency and we finish the Job on the first day. Cover 2 lb's can be had later. Defense may win championships but offence get them in the stands.....

My take is they are thinking of trading back into the first round and looking at a guy like Meachum.

nice.. hears footsteps.. scared to go over the middle.. and has a tendency to drop balls and lose concentrations..

all that on top of the whole "one decent year vs. his other 2 pathetic and embarrassing years".. and wow.. how can you not want this guy??

I don't buy that at all. He can catch, he can run, he'll go over the middle, and he's got a lot of potential.

Can a dude not get more mature from one year to the next?

I think he would fit into the trade up range ... we swap our 2 and a 3 for a playoff team's #1 ... that would be the only spot we would take this guy.

Well, one year of great stats puts you in the middle of the first round this year wether you like it or not. Meachem had better all around stats than CJ.
I don't care if we end up drafting the kid or not. I guess I'd just say that if you believe everything that you read from some of these douchebag analysts that don't know anything more than you why bash some kid for putting up stats like this? Come on Tatonka, do you believe everything you hear? We are just fans that watch games on TV and read up through the internet and other media. How do you base your assessments of top prospects? Did you watch any Tennessee games over the past three years to make your assessment or just going by what some dead beat analyst says?

T just gets a hard on for some players good or bad. See Matt Schaub and Jeff Smoker...lol

reed had 1740 yards in 1 season so i don't buy college stats at ALL!

i can acknowlege that he had a good season.. i dont think it was mind blowing, but just good.

i hear what you guys are all saying about maturing when he became a junior.. and about all his potential.. but there are alot of guys that have a ton of potential that are not going to require a first round pick to get.. guys like jacoby jacobs..

i mean can any of you honestly say that you would feel better if we took this guy with the 12th overall pick?

better yet.. can any of you acknowledge that there is significant risk with this guy? and dont give me the "every player is a risk" line.. are you guys ok with such a total lack of production for 2 yeas? or that as soon as he is draft eligable, he turns his game up? is that a TOTAL coincidence?

as far as watching him.. yeah, i have seen him play several times. Tennessee is a major team and gets at least 4-5 nationally televised games a year. did i see every game, no.. but i have seen enough of him over the past 3 years.. he was considered a COLLOSAL disappointment his first two years.. ask any tennessee fan..

and spaz.. every person on this board has a desire to see a few guys drafted and a few guys not drafted.. i have the sack to put my thoughts out there on different guys.. i was wrong on jeff smoker.. wow.. i dont know that i am wrong yet on schaub.. he has played in like 4 games and gone 2-2. lets see him play before i am right or wrong.. you didnt mention that i was not a fan of bunkley or other guys.. i mean come on..

it is what it is.. if we draft meachum then i will be a fan and hope that he isnt a one year wonder.. but at this point, that is ALL he is..

I will **** myself if the Bills pull a Whitner and get Meachem at 12. (Nothing against Whitner) Personally, I wouldn't even trade up for him. Saving a day one pick and grabbing Andrae Allison (who ALSO visited) or Craig Davis in round 2 are much better alternatives IMO.

The Bills also pulled a Whitner when they drafted Lee Evans who every mock draft had going much later than pick #13. Most had Evans going after pick 20 and he turned out ok.

I don't want the Bills drafting off mock drafts.

i am not talking about reaching due to mock drafts, baal.

i am talking about where i see a guy like that.. i dont see the guy as a first round guy.

if we drafted him in the second round.. i could deal with that.. but i just feel that he is a guy that someone is going to draft based on one decent season and a ton of potential.. with a high pick i want someone who has shown, on the field, more than one year, that they can get the job done and that they care about football.
