View Full Version : Turner or Briggs?

We only have 1 1st rd. pick. Who would you give it up for?

Discuss.

I'd give our 1st for Briggs, but I want their 2nd back.

If Turner costs more than our 2nd, no thanks.

I was just going to start this thread but you beat me to it.

I'd say neither for our 1st round pick, unless we are able to pick up another late 1st round or another 2nd round pick in the package. If that were possible then Turner just because I think there are more good/decent LB's that can be had later in this draft.

Briggs. I wouldn't give up a 1st for Turner.

Our 1st and the Ravens 3rd in 2007 and 2008 for Briggs and Bears 1st.

Bears 1st and our 3rd for Turner and the Chargers 3rd and 5th.

Leaves us with our 2nd and Chargers 3rd for day 1...
Our 4th, 6th & 7th along with the Chargers 5th and the Ravens 7th day 2.

but drafts are a crapshoot and Briggs is a proven probowler. I'd have to go with Briggs on this one. IMO , it's easier to find Porters in the draft than it is to find Urlachers /Briggs in the draft. Plus Briggs already fits the cover 2. RB's are also a dime a dozen , no?

Either.

In case you haven't noticed, we have a huge hole at both positions and need a bonifide player. Not a faceless draft pick who's NFL experience equals Zero.

The Bills will know the market and contract demands for both, before taking further steps.

I'd swap firsts with SD for Turner. That's the only way I'd give up a first for him.

I'd give up 12 for Briggs straight up and maybe more. I just can't see opening the vault like that for turner. If our first can grab one i'd have to take briggs.

I believe RB's are a dime a dozen with a good Oline, and a good LB is harder to find. I'll take Briggs. The draft is a crap shot and I will gladly say;

"With their 1st round selection the Buffalo Bills select Lance Briggs from the Chicago Bears!"

I'd be happy with either Turner or Briggs for the right price. Briggs/Crowell/Ellison would be a nice package to put on the field, I agree. I'm just fearful this team will overpay for Briggs because we are desperate for LB now after trading spikes. We could probably get Turner for cheaper than Briggs and still draft a P. Willis/Poz/Beason...etc. and be ok at LB.

I'd give the 1st rounder to the Bears for Lance Briggs in a heartbeat! RB is easier to fill, so I'd only go as high as our 2nd round for Turner. But maybe add a conditional pick for him.

I also think at the end of the day, Turner could be had for a second (and maybe one of the two thirds next year)

No question Briggs. He is a proven difference maker. If we gave up our first for an unproven backup RB I would **** myself.

Neither, unless the trade involved the Bears or Chargers pick and we stayed in the first round.

If I absolutely had no choice but to make either one of the deals or else, I'd go with Briggs over Turner. Starter > back-up, defense > offense, linebacker > runningback value-wise. Already playing in the Tampa2 and his connection to Jauron is a bonus.

I'm still not enamored with his pro-bowl 'status', though, and if we did manage to acquire him wouldn't expect him to perform at the same level as he did in Chicago unless Crowell grows into the second-coming of Urlacher.

Anyone who doesnt think Briggs is worth our 12th pick, refer to our BZ mock draft.. AS it played out we'd be stuck with POS as our best LB possibility.

this is one of those rare times when I agree with you completely. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Turner here but I think we'd be getting more for our pick if we brought in Briggs for all the reasons you just stated.

Since when is a Pro Bowl LB , who's not a prospect that's already proved his worth in the NFL, at only 26 years old.. NOT worth a first round draft pick. ? Not to mention LB is our biggest weakness.

This may have been posted but what about swapping 1st rounders w/ S.D. for Turner, then taking their 1st rounder and trading that, along with Baltimore's 3rd this year and next for Briggs? That leaves us with Turner Briggs, our 2nd, 3rd... this year and our regular picks next year. I'd do that in a second!

briggs has a distinct lack of big plays.. lots of tackles.. few big plays.

he is not an elite linebacker in my opinion.

i think he has done a good job surrounded by great talent.

i dont want to give up our first for him.

a second is fine.

that would be great but I don't see it happening for 3 reasons:
1. The Chargers are unlikely to swap firsts for Turner when other teams are willing to give up a 1st straight up.
2. The Chargers' 1st probably wouldn't be high enough for the Bears to accept for Briggs
3. Although we're in good cap shape, it would still be hard to fit them both under the cap, especially if we're sticking to the "cash to cap" philosophy.

It's probably going to be one or the other and I'm hoping for Briggs.

McBFLO
03-31-2007, 02:39 PM
Good point about the cap room. You're probably right. I hope it's Briggs then because I think that it's more of a glaring need. That way we can take Lynch or AP in the 1st and another LB in the second and/or third.

Lack of big plays? He is a WS LB in a Tampa-2 defense. He isn't going to get sacks because he doesn't rush the QB a lot. He does cover a lot.

For his career Briggs has 441 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 Ints, 29 passes defended, 7 forced fumbles and 3 fumbles recovered.

Those are pretty impressive statistics.

Derrick Brooks is generally considered the standard for Tampa-2 WS LB. After 4 years of his career he had 337 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 4 Ints, 29 passes defended, 6 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovered.

So, at similar points in their careers Briggs has equalled or bettered Brooks in every key defensive statistic.

Further, if you look at Briggs in the last 2 seasons:

237 tackles(192 solo), 3 sacks, 4 Ints, 17 passes defensed, 7 forced fumbles, 3 fumbles recovered.

Briggs is a legitimately great player. He is all over the field making plays, and is one of the best cover LB in the NFL. If anyone is worth a 1st round pick it is he. Acquiring him is like getting a 26-year old Derrick Brooks.

You gotta go with Briggs - the Chargers are stupid to think that they'll get a first for an unproven commodity in Michael Turner.

I'd go first for Briggs and a chicago 3rd this year - 3 thirds this year plus our second should be more than enough to move back into the first round if we feel we really need to to get a RB - if we do that, then I'd like to see the media's take on our offseason.

We'd have Briggs, plus a late first round quality RB - there's our two biggest holes filled, and then we could go BPA at DT, CB, WR, TE - which ever guy we think can make the most impact.

I don't feel like it would be wise to take turner because we've got a line that's pretty stacked now that it shouldn't be hard for any RB to achieve at least 4 YPC behind our line.

No I don't think that Bills will move or there will be no Buffalo Bills in the future. Because If Bills Move out or no more Buffalo Bills how the possilbe will be three teams Jets/NE/Fins in AFC East . Can't have three teams in the AFC east. Must have 4 teams In the AFC East.

I found this post pretty funny.

I didn't think it wasn't going to happen, I just really wanted Huff last year. :(

we have a WS Linebacker... so does ellison go to the bench? ellison can play middle or strong side at 230lbs. so we sign briggs and still need another starter at mlb or sslb, depending on where they put crowell.

signing him doesnt solve our needs likr everyone thinks it does

Finally, someone figured it out! If we get Briggs, who plays SLB?
