Asante Samuel wants to be traded

I guess it was only a matter of time.

Here is the link, which quotes Adam Schefter of NFL Network as the source:

Cornerback Asante Samuel spoke with Adam Schefter of the NFL Network and updated the status of his contract talks with the Patriots.

“This is to let everybody know that I’m not happy anymore and things are not going well,” Samuel told Schefter. “At first I thought it was going well, but it’s not.

“We have a difference of opinion in my value. They think I’m worth one price and the other teams think I’m worth a lot more. If a long-term deal can’t be done at fair numbers for me and New England, then I want to be traded.”

Asante Samuel pulling a Briggs on New England

Patriots | Samuel requests a trade
    Wed, 4 Apr 2007 1748 -0700
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel has requested a trade because he is unhappy with the way contract negotiations have gone

This was rumored a couple months ago but it has resurfaced. I would suspect the front runner for him coming out of the gates would be New Orleans.

If they do trade him, I hope they get value. I wouldn't mind them getting another first for him, and then sliding Eugene Wilson down to CB. Randall Gay returns this year as well, so the Pats are better off at CB than last season.

I'm sure every owner told the Bears to stop being giant pussies at the owners meetings and that's why Briggs isn't going anywhere. Asante Samuels is not getting traded.

The owners realized that the franchise tag is one of the things that they have that is worthless if they just trade every plalyer who threatens to sit.

exactly. Samuel knows that he could have gotten even more money if he wasn't tagged.

In the end briggs will go to New England and Samuel will go to chicago and we will all be pissed.

Doubt that. If a team were to trade for Asante they would have to pay him, and I can't see why the Bears would give him the money they won't give Briggs.

Perhaps the Pats can talk Washington into the swap of picks they offered the Bears, #6 for #28 and Samuel. Then the Pats can draft Landry and shift Wilson to CB.

Naw chicago is cheap, they don't want to sign samuel to a clements like Salary, besides corner isn't a big need position in the cover two. I can't see New England breaking the back for another backer.

If the pats got Landry id seriously cry. Id rather they kept samuel.

it's good to see that for once, the Pats have a star player whining about money. They seemed to be immune from that kind of crap for the last 5 years or so. I'm glad it's catching up with them.

Of course, it doesn't change the fact that they're still the team to beat in the division by far, but at least it provides some hope that the wheels are coming off.

Actually I could live with that. A perfect cover 2 LB crammed into a 3-4? Instead of a ball-hawking corner? I could roll with that.
