I just watched the BB.com thingy on the RB's. I must admit I sense some cockyness from Lynch. He does come off as a bit of a punk.

The guy who seems to win the character battle is Pittman. Heres a guy who smart and wants to fight it out on the field. This guy is screaming that hes a Levy type guy. Hes undersized and its an issue, but he has what we want as far as character. The runner up is Tony Hunt, hes another one that seems to have the right attitude.

How much does character matter? Tough to say. Willis was probably run out of town in part due to character. Is Lynch the same player? I really dont think so at all. I think hes not that smart, I think hes got a chip, but I dont see Willis Jr. Hes not a me guy. Hes a team guy that works hard for tough yards.

BTW, Peterson seemed to have a decent attitude. His injury issues are huge though, and I hope we pay close attention to it.

I am 100% against us drafting Lynch. I believe he is the same person McGahee was. i want Pittman more tha any other RB. He will be the best available RB in th 2nd round if he is there. If not i would like Leonard, Jackson and Booker in that order.

I don't know about Pittman being the best RB available in the 2nd. I would have to say that Kenny Irons or Bush will probably be a better back. I could live with Pittman, if that is the only player available when we pick.

Bull-****. Character matters to me, my opinion...the Bills dont care, but it matters to me.

Leave the losers to the Cowboys, Fins, and Bengals.

Im hearing that Bush wont run fast at all. Hes not ready to run as we all know. However, this is a playmaker. Bush is a great RB, but is 40 time or lack thereof, cant be overlooked.

He's a great college playmaker, -but even if he does recover, I dont see him being a good pro running back unless he changes alot.

For one, he's not very fast. I know 40times dont mean everything, but the fact he runs a 4.55-4.65 should be concern. Now another big thing is that he doesnt use his frame to run people over. Never has, and Im not sure if he ever will. His ability to juke and cut will work in college, but his lack of speed, and lack of being physical will ruin him in the pros.

Wow... I respect you as a poster man, but I'm kinda left scratching my head at how you get all of that from a few 10 second soundbytes...

My brother goes to Berkely, and plays for there rugby team. He's met him a few times and says he's a nice guy. I also follow Cal/ND football relgiously and ive NEVER seen anything out of lynch that would be a potentitial charectar flaw.

I didn't get any impression from Chris Brown's article that he is a punk. He's a bit edgy in some ways, and has a Willis McGahee like confidence in his ability. However, confidence is a remarkably common trait among football players and Lynch shows a deep appreciation for his mother, a single parent.

I would not mind if Buffalo went in another direction though. I think Pittman is a pretty creative runner who can probably put on a little more muscle without sacrificing quickness. I thinkk I would take pittman before I took Irons. Jackie Battle is certainly intriguing, though I suspect he's going to be a little raw.

I agree, but every time i see Chad Johnson on a Fat Head commercial i, "for a brief moment pretend like im glad he's not on our team". Our quarterback coming out of college had a "cockyness" about him. So did Jimbo. There is nothing wrong with a little cockeyness in a football player.

You don't get to the pro level in sports without being extremely confident in your abilities... and that level of confidence is often mistaken for cockiness.

Biased Cal fan here.

I don't recall Lynch exhibiting any punk-like character flaws over the past three years, unless the Cal football team was hiding something.

(Well, you could count the cart incident (http://youtube.com/watch?v=iChgCGa0ikg), which really wasn't much of an incident. It came after a tense OT game in which Washington scored on a miracle hail mary (http://youtube.com/watch?v=q9XZLdI9aJs) in the final seconds to tie the game. Thankfully, Lynch saved the day (http://youtube.com/watch?v=I98s-V5eAsA). With the cart, he wasn't taunting the other team. Just expressing relief while picking up a tired LB (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/michael_silver/10/25/marshawn.lynch/1.html) who also shares the #10. In fact, here's footage (http://youtube.com/watch?v=vaxkJvThr54) of Lynch praying with the Huskies immediately after hopping off the cart.)

But the phrase "character issues" has been permanently attached to Lynch's name over the past two months -- since he was accused, but *NOT* charged with domestic violence -- that I'm wondering if the media was lying to us.

Anyway, this is how we knew Marshawn at Cal. Maybe he's changed since then. Maybe he was too good to be true. Who knows. (And yes, I've linked to these articles before):

From the SF Chronicle, 8/25/05 (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/08/28/SPG7IEE00O28.DTL):

Lynch is blissfully above it all. He's truly unconcerned with hype and hoopla. He sees himself as just another player -- a contributor, a dependable teammate. He's also doing his best to live like a normal college student, a pretty good one at that.

(SNIP)

<snip>He isn't comfortable talking about his talents. He doesn't enjoy press interviews, but is accommodating. He usually gives all the credit for his accomplishments to his teammates.

"He makes the O-line look good," center Marvin Philip said. "He's the offensive line's best friend. ... He's a very, very humble person."

"That's just him," said his grandfather, Leron Lynch. "That's the way he grew up. ... I don't understand him myself. I hope someday he gets out of it, talks and lets it hang out."

From the SF Chronicle, 8/20/06 (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/08/20/SPGSRKM2FU1.DTL):

Ask Lynch what third-stringer Marcus O'Keith would do in Cal's offense, and he says, "He'd put up the same numbers I do."

</snip>(SNIP)
<snip> <snip>
"There's no shadow here," he said. "We all are the front-runner, and I would hate for anyone to feel like any of my teammates were in my shadow. It's just not true."

Those kinds of comments are heard loud and clear by the offensive linemen, too.

"That's what makes it so fun to block for Marshawn," senior left guard Erik Robertson said. "He always gives us credit, even after he's been the one making us look good.

"He makes you want to get down field and keep blocking, because you know he'll break some tackles. But you'll never hear him talking about himself."

For me Brian Leonard all the way in the 2nd

Character
Versatility
A Team Player
Can carry the load
Can block
Good receiver
A multi talented weapon
Gives the option of a smaller RB like Slaton or Rice in 2008

All of that? I said I "sensed" some cockyness, and he "comes off" like a bit fo a punk. Everyone knows how I am a huge fan of Lynch, but his demeanor was striking to me. Im in no way proclaiming the guy is Willis. But could he be? Its a question, not an answer.

I wanted him to impress me with his attitude and demeanor. He didnt.

Thats worth a hell of alot more than 10 seconds in an interview. I had heard similar reports. I had heard he plays angry, but is a nice guy.
