Before trade deadline, Stars add Odelein, Barnes
There is a popular theory that if you're not getting better, you're just standing still waiting to be passed.
Stars general manager Doug Armstrong seems to be a believer in that theory.
Despite holding the top spot in the Western Conference and being in a tight battle with Ottawa for the top spot in the NHL and the President's Trophy, Armstrong added to his team Monday, the day before the NHL's trade deadline, acquiring defenseman Lyle Odelein from Chicago and center Stu Barnes from Buffalo while giving up just one NHL player for those two combined.
"Our goal is to play at a level that will allow us to compete for the Stanley Cup," Armstrong said. "To this point the players have done their job. Now the response of the hockey department is to give them the best chance to have success. By adding veteran players we're sending a message that we believe in them and we believe they can play deep into the playoffs."
