New Dolphins coach Cam Cameron plans to hold an open competition in camp for the Dolphins starting job. Culpepper and Cleo Lemon (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7026) are the only returning quarterbacks on the team roster.

Lets put it this way..... If Pep cant go I feel a heck of a lot better with Cleo getting the nod this year than I did with Joey last year.

they r either going to draft a QB or trade for Trent Green so forget about CleoI wouldn't count out Cleo, he played for Cam in SD and apparently both Cam and Marty were very high on him....... After he was traded to us Marty threw a fit in about it in his PC.... Turns out AJ Smith had traded Cleo without consulting Marty and Marty was pissed as he was very high on Cleo and had no plans of getting rid of him. It was kinda the start (at least in public) of the feud that got Marty fired this offseason.

All that to say Cleo knows Cams system from his days in SD and since Cam has come aboard he has had some nice things to say about Cleo and his work ethic. I guess we will see.

Edit-And just to be clear I'm not anointing Cleo as the "NEXT GREAT QB!!!!" or anything, I just wouldn't discount his chance of playing if Pep cant go.

Does anyone here know how many months Willis was out of football after he tore up his knee during the national championship game against OSU???

Are we looking to add Green just because you can never have too many guys at football's most important position who know the system? Or is it because we feel we have a desperate need for a better backup/starter? So far it hasn't seemed like we are in any particular hurry to make the trade go down and I don't think we have offered more than a 6th..... I just don't know.

At one point Mueller had Bulger, Delhomme, and Arron Brooks all on the same roster when he was the GM in NO.... Its worth remembering too that Cam has had both Brees and Rivers on his roster for a big part of his time as the OC of SD. The feel I get listening to both Cam and Mueller is that they would love to throw as many guys as possible into TC and just let the best guy win job.

Awfully hard to get a read on the truth of anything this time of year though with GM's every third word being misdirection aimed at the draft.

2 years I think.

I believe it was 19 months, Culpepper is on month 17. The reason I asked was because they both had the same sorta of severe injury. Yet WM needs his knee to work 100% a whole more then Daunte because of the way the two players play their positions. Basically RB's need to stop and cut far more then QB's. Granted Daunte is a runner and he useses his rushing ability to escape the pocket and make things happen it's not something he does 25 to 40 times a game like a RB. WM returned to health and has not shown any signs of of the injury since, I also believe Edgerin James sufferd a similar injury and he returned and played outstanding football.

My point to this is Daunte is near the time frame others with near the same injury returned and continued or started their careers. Daunte does not want a set back now and he also had a second surgery to clean up his knee from the first surgery, not uncommon. Nonetheless he needs to make sure before he goes all out that the knee will respond positively. I'm not worried in the least about where he is, he either returns to health and plays like he used to, or he doesn't. I have no control over what happens and therefore I can only hope he returns. If he doesn't and we have to go a different direction, so be it.

Yeah and you know this because he ran behind the best Oline in football and still couldn't manage more then 1300 yards. Good point!

Yup, a RB needs the knee a heck of a lot more than a QB. Even a QB who likes to move the pocket..... IMO if Pep fails it will be because he of mental issues, not the knee.

Culpepper's problem was NOT with his knee. He was lousy in Minny before getting injured. The knee injury just makes it worse for him.

But I hope they keep hitching their wagon to him.

But I hope they keep hitching their wagon to him.I don't know that I agree with that. He injured that knee earlier in the season and kept playing on it... Only to get it blown out completely later, but he wan not healthy even before that final game. Plus he had just lost his number one receiver along with his OC and WR coach. That whole team was in disarray.

All that being said I do think he has something to prove..... And going by his interviews he feels that way too, which I take as a good sign. I love pissed off players who think rightly or wrongly that the world is dissing them.

The problem dolphan, is that the Dolphins have very little talent on offense. They have no O-line, no TE, and Cameron will be pulling double-duty. If Culpepper were returning to those pre-2005 Vikings offenses, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.
