    Floyd Reese on Losman

Floyd Reese, formerly GM of Tennessee, just had a chat wrap on ESPN. He was asked the following question about J.P. Losman:

Tony (Rochester, NY): Hey Floyd, What do you think of JP Losman's progress in Buffalo? Can he be the type of QB to lead Buffalo to the playoffs?

Floyd Reese: I think he is coming along well. The QB position is the most analyzed and overcriticized position in maybe all of sports. It is not by accident that the better QBs in the league are 32, 33, 34 years old, because it takes that amount of time to truly learn the position. I think the jury is out as to whether or not he can carry a team to the playoffs, but I would not hesitate to say that if he has help, he can be part of a team that goes to the playoffs.
I think that is a fair assessment at this point in his career.

    agreed- it's a fair assessment.

I have no problems with Losman at the moment. I highly doubt he's going to light up the league, but I think he has some highlight-reel plays in him and if his consistency continues to improve, he'll be fine for us.

i fully expect a breakout season for jp, probably something like 3500 25 14

        two key reasons:

        1) high completion percentage on what was a rather bad offense. that he did it without a strong running game, a big #2 wr, and spotty pass blocking is extremely impressive for such a young qb imo

        2) oline - the bills hand-picked reinforcements for the oline and spent a lot on them. i would expect a much stronger overall performance in both run and pass blocking from that unit

Thats a breakout year? So you expect all of 500 yards more, and 6 more TD's? How bout better yet, he cuts down his INT's and I expect pretty much similar numbers to this year maybe a little lower.

          3000 yds, 16 TD, 10 INT

This should be the year that Fairchild let's Jp go all out and make make him make his own decisions especially at the line of scrimmage.

                  Re: Floyd Reese on Losman

I think Fairchild will continue to loosen the reins on Losman in terms of the kinds of plays he will trust him to run, but I also expect that the Bills will continue to strive for a relatively balance offense with the runner, whoever it might be, getting a lot of carries. That will tend to keep Losman from having glitzy Marino like stats. Expect his touchdown to interception ration to improve some.

Best thing to ever happen to Losman (and probably the reason his career was saved) was getting rid of Moolarkey.

I think JP's TD-INT ratio isn't going to change much for the better. He doesn't have the 'best-of-both-worlds' mentality or attitude, IMO. If his yards and TD's go up, his int's will also.

I can live with that, as long as the team is winning.
