The Islanders, yearning to head back to Long Island with a road split, should have franchise goaltender Rick DiPietro in the crease for Game Two of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals tonight in HSBC Arena.
DiPietro has been sidelined since March 25, when he suffered his second concussion in 12 days. He was cleared to practice with the Islanders on Friday afternoon in the Amherst Pepsi Center, but neither he nor coach Ted Nolan would reveal their plans for tonight.
Common sense dictates DiPietro will be on the ice.
“Desperate times, desperate measures,” Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said, “and if he’s ready to play I would assume that he would play. He’s been their backbone, and if you can add him to your lineup, you’re adding a valuable player.
“It fills the hope tank up again.” DiPietro’s replacement, Wade Dubielewicz, played well Thursday night in a 31-save, losing effort. But DiPietro is a former No. 1 draft selection and an Olympian who the Islanders gave an outlandish 15-year, $67.5 million contract in September

The Isles think it's going to matter but what they didn't realize is we took our foot off the gas after it became 4-1. There seemed no reason to go further and since they want to get a little violent, we will just jack the score up a few more goals and make them look like a bad AHL group.

DiPietro cleared to play with Islanders

The New York Islanders' playoff chances improved late Thursday night, as the team announced that goaltender Rick DiPietro has been cleared to play and will take part in a full practice on Friday.

DiPietro, recovering from two concussions, did not dress in Thursday's 4-1 loss against the Buffalo Sabres and watched the game from a luxury box at HSBC Arena.

Wade Dubielewicz started Game 1 of the best-of-seven series and stopped 31 of 35 Buffalo shots.

DiPietro sustained two concussions 12 days apart last month. He skated on his own Tuesday, but hasn't practiced with the team since a loss to the New York Rangers on March 25. He missed the final seven games of the regular season.

From what I saw thurs night the Isles goalie didnt play that bad. I thought our 4 goals were in perfect locations. Not even a great goalie is gonna stop a shot he cant see thats put in a perfect location.

That rookie stood on his head or it would have been 10-1...

that still doesnt mean dp wont make a difference

youve been around long enough to know a hot goalie can steal a series and its a lot more likely that a good veteran will get hot before a career ahl goalie

i mean youre right it prolly wont make a diff i just dont like all this taking stuff for granted hockey is the least easy to predict of the four major sports anything can happen

It's tough to steal a series when the team in front of you has like 4 real scoring chances a game.

2 concussions less than 2 weeks apart, he Shouldn't be playing

I think Dub played a great game and his play was a big reason why they won there last 4 games. Dipietro is a great goalie but he has not played in three weeks and will be facing the highest scoring team in the league. Not sure I agree with that decision. Not to mention you have to think Dipietro may be tentative after 2 concussions.

That rookie stood on his head or it would have been 10-1...

Absolutely. Dubielewicz was not the issue in Game 1. The lack of offense from the Isles was. And, like we've said, Buffalo wasn't even on their 'A' game in Game 1, otherwise it could've been a lot uglier. I understand DiPietro coming back, since he is their #1 goalie, but I think it might be a bit too early.

Dubie is the Reason they are in the post season,

to bench him because his team failed him is stupid..

its the post season, the isles aren't paying Rick DiPi, so I Say Let Dubie Play, I mean, Rick Dipi had 2 concussions in 2 weeks, and is ready to play in less than a month... hmm....

Anyone who wanted to see DiPietro back was asking for it. :ill:

Why the hell did he have to come back? He was his usual self today and dominated.

He played well, but he Sabres didn't bear down on a lot of those opportunities. If they were skating, then maybe a couple of those rebounds might have been put away. He played good, but the Sabres also played poorly...I believe it goes hand in hand.
