"About time," the Buffalo Bills great said, the words jumping out of him. "Bottom line is, it's about time. Players got to understand they represent the National Football League and what that means, and they also represent their namesake and their families. If you're not doing the right thing, you don't need to be a part of it."

Kelly and mainstays of the Bills were no angels but the level of some of the players have been involved with the law is truely a black eye for the NFL.

Thurman Thomas disagrees though:
"You want your players to behave," said Thomas, a 2007 Pro Football Hall of Fame electee, "but you've also got to protect them. I'm in favor of a policy, but I don't think (NFLPA president) Gene Upshaw is standing up for the players.

What about protecting the good playyers and their reputations? Shouldn't the NFL commissioner be balancing both sides?

Good players with solid reputations don't need protecting.
