IN DraftBoys thread about Draft Scenarios (I) He outlined a scenario in which AP, Willis and Lynch were all gone before the Bills pick at 12. (I wont shoot the messenger because the scenario could play itself out like that).
Naturally, in that case Amobi Okoye would be the BPA. I got absolutely nothing against Okoye. He's a "Marv" type of guy, very mature and in a few years POTENTIALLY could develop into a Tommie Harris type of player.
It's easy to say lets pluck Okoye from the board and plug him in.
But here is my question, what do you do IF you draft Okoye?
FORGET Tim Anderson, I won't even count him. But teams carry four defensive tackles on Sundays. If we drafted Okoye, then someone else is going to be either cut or watching the games on Sunday in street clothes like the rest of us.
1- Larry Tripplett- Do you give up on a guy you gave $18 mill over 5 years too after one year?
2- John McCargo- by trading up to get into the first, we invested a lot to acquire him.
3- Kyle Williams- One of the steals of the draft, he was arguably our best DT last year.
4- Darwin Walker- The vet that we traded Takeo Spikes for.
We can debate it until the end of the earth, but the bottom line is you only keep 4 DT's on the active roster, so if we took Okoye then SOMEONE has to go.
For that reason and that reason only, IMO that's why you dont draft Okoye. It doesnt fix one of the gaping holes we currently have. Also, by taking Okoye it shows really bad front office management in that one of these DT's becomes the odd-man out.. BUt that's only my opinion and irrelevant.
My question for the board is if we take Okoye then who is out (not counting Tim Anderson, he's already given) Someone has to go. Like I said, one of those four either gets cut or becomes inactive on Sundays.
Who and why?
