It has been rumored, but now Yahoo Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/nfl_experts/post/Saints-pursue-Colts-RFA-CB-David;_ylt=AuAhRUh1hZBNuhqb7zlshVdDubYF?urn=nfl,29489) is reporting the Saints are negotiating an offer sheet for Colts CB Jason David, a RFA who would require 4th round compensation if the Colts didn't match.

This is an interesting signing for a couple reasons:

- It would create a void in the Colts secondary, since David is tabbed to replace CB Nick Harper. With Mike Doss and Cato June also signing elsewhere it calls the Indy defense against the pass into question.

- If the Saints sign David it would fill their most obvious defensive deficiency. This is important, because if the top-3 CB are gone by the time they pick they help themselves by choosing a LB or S (also big needs). This makes sense given the depth at those positions in the draft, and NO can get a good player at LB or S instead of gambling by on a CB like Eric Wright or Josh Wilson.

I thought Marlin Jackson was supposedly replacing Harper?

Yeah I was pulling for this signing through trades they have gotten 3 4th rounders so I dont know that its a huge deal giving up one and as you said it allows them to look elsewhere come draft time.

Looks like it is going to happen, per Adam Schefter (http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10033511):

Attempting to address their biggest need before next weekend's draft, the New Orleans Saints reached agreement Thursday morning with Indianapolis' restricted free-agent cornerback Jason David on a four-year offer sheet.

The offer sheet will be signed Thursday afternoon and then presented to the Colts. It is expected to be the largest offer sheet signed during this offseason's free-agent signing period.

The Colts will have seven days to match the offer sheet that will be frontloaded, with most of the money included in years one and two of the deal. If they decline to match -- and it's going to be difficult for them to match -- the Colts would receive a fourth-round pick from the Saints.

Indianapolis would get New Orleans 4th round pick, #126 overall.
