    Now thats fast!

Garrett, who also was a head coach on the collegiate level, last worked as a scout for Cowboys in 2003.

Garrett, retired now, helps develop football hopefuls at GoodSports USA in Wall Township. Over the years Garrett has seen a lot of talented players come and go, but few better than Lowber.

“The kid is really fast and he can jump,'' Garrett said. “We had a workout for six NFL teams and he ran a 4.11, a 4.21, a 4.28 and a 4.3 40-yard dash. And he had a 42 1/2 vertical leap.

Probably a very generous hand timing on a very fast track.... Maybe even with a tail wind. I find it very hard to beleive he would have run a 4.11 at Indy.

That is pretty fast. You would have to have safety help over the top on every play in order to defend the deep throw. Talk about opening up some holes for the dump offs. Kelly Holcomb could thrive in that system. No wonder "Answer" is infatuated with him.

                        Just for reference:

The wide receivers took to the turf at the NFL draft combine at the RCA Dome yesterday and upped the ante in the 40-yard dash. Hampton's Jerome Mathis not only had the fastest time to this point, but the best in combine history at an electronically timed 4.32 seconds.

Deion Sanders ran 4.28 in 1989, but his was hand-timed rather than the electronic times being registered this year. Mathis' hand-timed clocking was 4.25.

I realize many here are young and wouldn't remember Renaldo Nehemiah. He was the world record holder in the 110 Meter hurdles and the 49'rs signed him to play WR back in 1982. He stuck around for about 3 years, recording about 40 total catches and 4 TD's. He ran a 4.1 in the 40. Once was timed in 19.4 seconds while running a 200 meter split in an 800 meter relay. Just blinding fast. He was roughly 5-9 and 170lbs.

It's been done before but the only Track star that made a real impression in the NFL was Bob Hayes, who won the Olympic Gold medal in the 100 Meter sprint and played some great WR for Dallas with Don Meredith at QB, during the 1960's.

I remember another 80s WR that won a gold medal in the 4 x 100 relay, which took gold in the 84 olympics and set a then world record.of 37.83 seconds. He also had a decent NFL career 98 catches for 1791 yards and 13 TDs.

Sam Graddy was also part of the 4 x 100 relay team but never did much as an NFL player.
