Chiefs | L. Johnson on trading block?

<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/143">Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star (http://www.kffl.com/link/142), reports the Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.kffl.com/team/21/nfl) have offered RB Larry Johnson (http://www.kffl.com/player/5896/nfl) to teams in order to acquire more draft picks.

WTF.. are they ******ed?

LJ wants a new contract and the Chiefs can't afford it

That's what I've been trying to figure out... man, it just doesn't make sense.

I don't buy that they can't afford him, there are so many ways to manipulate the cap, signing bonuses, etc., and be 'creative' with contracts, that ANY team can afford to keep ANY player if they want them bad enough.. and you'd think they'd want to hang onto one of the elite, top 2-3 backs in the league.

Is Holmes healthy enough to return to form? Doubtful.. Do they think they have another elite back on their roster in Michael Bennett? Well, that goes back to your '******ed' comment..

It's not as crazy as it seems. The Chiefs have a ton of needs and Johnson had record-breaking carries last season. There have been studies showing that RBs who get that many carries break down very early (see, e.g., Jamal Lewis). This may be the last shot to get a lot for LJ.

He's 28 and at his prime and the chiefs will be playing with a make shift line with the retirement of shields, and they will be starting a rookie qb. I wouldn't be shocked if you saw a purging of the rosters in hopes of becoming younger. The best way for the chiefs to do that? Trade Johnson because by the time the teams rebuilt he will be on the downside of his career. The chiefs could get a boat load of picks for him. I still don't see it happening, if it happens it might remind some of us of the herscel walker trade.

He's only 27 and has only carried the full load for 2 seasons.. actually, a less than 2 seasons.

I don't know, just seems there has to be more to it than that.

I read this shortly after the superbowl. What I read said that there were lockerroom issues with him that were starting to get out of hand. I don't know specifics tho.

That makes sense CC.

Seems a little overboard to me, given the modern day NFL, and the ability to rebuild much more quickly than pre FA.

Gunz, yeah, if thats true, it would make a lot more sense of this.

I have also heard he is a bit of a malcontent. Didn't get along with Vermiel and I think Edwards is now having some similar problems.

He also said in an interview that he prefers to play for a black coach. He then had some issues with Edwards play calling last year.

Seems like he is never happy.

im not saying this would ever happen... but im agine if we somehow got LJ in a bills uni.... all of a sudden our defensive woes dont seem so bad cuz we can keep our defense off the field with an ACTUAL running game..... wow.

Don't forget - Donablow passed up on LJ for Mcgahee back in 2003.

Regardless The Answer thinks we should make a move for him, not sure about trading the #12 pick though.

I remember a while back, not sure exactly when, but there was an article about LJ that kind of caused a stir in KC. He was quoted as saying he didn't like living in KC or the people of KC because they were all like George Bush supporters and he didn't feel comfortable in the community or something like that. Anyone else remember that?

He had some of those same issues while at PSU. I dont remember deatails but there was an incident where he called out some of the offensive coaches.
