Monday April 23rd:
- Despite reports otherwise, we continue to hear Tampa Bay wants to trade up in the first round. The problem is that they may not be willing to give up what Detroit wants. The Bucs appear content to draft DE Gaines Adams (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=25&a=54) should they not be able to get Calvin Johnson (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=20&a=48). http://www.newerascouting.com/czarnews/uploads/Calvin_Johnson_Action_thumb.jpg

- We have been told by people close to the Raiders that a deal with JaMarcus Russell (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=17&a=52) could actually come early this week, but that the team will not announce this in order to investigate all possible trade offers.

- It still looks like Tennessee will trade for Chargers RB Michael Turner. This is a deal that should happen before Saturday morning.

- The Trent Green to Miami deal is a lock to happen, but the Chiefs are dragging their feet in order to get a higher pick from Miami. There are also feelings that they are holding on to Green as long as possible in order to keep Daunte Culpepper from being released and signing with Oakland.

- It is no secret that the Redskins want Calvin Johnson (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=20&a=48), but this is a team with no second or third round picks. They do not have the ammunition to move to the 2nd spot.

http://www.newerascouting.com/czarnews/uploads/Joe_Thomas_Action_thumb.jpg- The Detroit Lions coaching staff is in love with Joe Thomas (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=22&a=18), but the front office does not see paying top pick money for Thomas and left tackle Jeff Backus.

- The Falcons spent the weekend setting their board and we hear the team really likes middle linebacker Patrick Willis (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=28&a=60).

- Don't rule out Denver as a team that could trade up with Detroit to get the #2 pick overall once the Raiders select goes up.

- We've been told that the Dallas Cowboys will not let Marshawn Lynch (http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=18&a=55) get past them in the first-round should he fall.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

The Falcons may want to keep Keith Brooking at the weakside (like last season) and have Patrick Willis play MLB for the recently-released Edgerton Hartwell. But this particularly scares me- I just thought the Falcons were a possibility for Patrick, but this corroborates it a little further. It could be designed to misdirect, but I'm not so sure. The possibility remains that we may need to think about life after Patrick Willis because arguably the Dolphins, and most certainly the 49ers, will consider him, even if the Falcons pass. Personally, I'd sooner take Marshawn Lynch than Paul Posluszny if Willis is gone. I would agree that Willis not being there increasing the likelihood that we'd draft Posluszny, but if we don't want Lynch, I still would look to move down to the early twenties, pick up an additional late-second, and draft someone like Jon Beason, Robert Meachem, or Dwayne Bowe.

Anyway, about Turner, we'll have to see, and we've long resigned ourselves to the Bills not ending up with him. But I wonder what the Titans are offering that we haven't- maybe they will offer a first, this year or next year- that's all that I can think they could offer to placate A.J. Smith that we wouldn't.

New Era Scouting is usually more reliable than most, so I might be inclined to trust what they're saying. Anyway, I looked to find this before I posted it. But I guess I didn't look hard enough. Anyway, thanks again for the heads-up.

The Answer's sources have told him similar information, in fact Jerry Jones is determined to upgrade the RB position since he don't believe that either Julius Jones or Marion Barber the Third are The Answer in terms of a full time back. The Answer knows for a fact that he's hot for Adrian Peterson, but knows thats a pipe dream since they aren't going to give up a lot of picks to trade up - but if Lynch slips like a lot of draft insiders are predicting than they wouldn't have to give up as much to get him.

This is exactly why we need to get on the phone with the brass at valley ranch and make a move for MBIII - even Julius Jones would be a last resort option that's better than Michael Turner.

This is why you could add Dallas to our potential trade down list. We swap firsts and give them a 6th, we get Jones plus a 3rd rounder, and they grab Lynch. How does that equate in terms of value?
Jones and then Beason for the 1st, plus another 3rd would be spectacular.

Dallas will not be drafting Lynch, that much I can promise you. They have all but said that they are going after the best DB available.

Atlanta just resigned MLB DeMorrio Williams yesterday.. So scatch Willis off that list, at least as an ILB.

Dont you think they'd consider Ben Grubbs at guard with their 22nd pick?

Knowing Jones and his dislike of drafting Offense in the first round over the last few years I don't think there is any doubt he is going after a DB. He has the mind set that Defense wins championships and the general consensus around here is they would have won four more games last year had Roy Williams and Patrick Watkins not gotten burnt so much last year.

Phillips apparently wants Roy Williams to play at the line more this year..... ALOT. There have been talks of moving up to get Landry.
