Sabres ban beer @ Party on the Plaza

The Buffalo Sabres announced plans Tuesday night for an "expanded Party in the Plaza," but those plans mean no more beer for fans.

The pre-game "Parties in the Plaza" outside of the HSBC Arena begin again Wednesday night before game one of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Rangers.

The Sabres say Perry Street will now be closed from Washington Street to Illinois street to expand the event.

Also new for the second round of the playoffs, beer will no longer be served at the parties and fans will not be allowed to bring coolers or chairs.

I don't think fighting was the problem, they were taking about it on GR yesterday and they said that it appeared the was a lot of underaged drinking. I said to my wife, that's the end of the beer at the party!

Yeah now the underage will just go to bars with fake Ids where there will be 0 police supervision. Just plain dumb. I bet No one will go to this now.

Exactly. It is a joke. Do it like Thursday in the square. You need a wristband to drink. Have police checking the Ids and there you go.

I heard the reason that they are doing it is because they want to gear it more towards families and that we are on Versus tonight so we want to make a good name for our fans.. just get hammered and walk to the plaza party. Goto the top of the Ramp near Pilot field, we're there every game getting hammered..we have funnels, kegs, food, noisemakers, flags and liquor.

simple solution- fence off a "beer tent" area and only people who are 21 can get in, and beer can only be in the designated area.

It saves the cops the trouble of having to police the whole crowd for booze and it lets people who are old enough have their beer.

Plus, you can overcharge for booze in that situation and easily pay for the police presence, fence, set up/clean up crews etc.
