BUFFALO: By the numbers: 2006 W/L - 7-9; Rankings: Off - 30; Def - 18... The Bills took a step forward on the field last fall, in part because of a strong 2006 draft, however, its been two steps back this off-season as Buffalo lost CB Nate Clements, one of the best cover corners in the league, as well as MLB London Fletcher to free agency, while RB Willis McGahee and OLB Takeo Spikes were traded away. The departure of McGahee, who went to Baltimore for three draft picks, leaves the Bills with a particularly huge hole at RB where journeyman Anthony Thomas would start if the season opened today. The Bills have a little more depth at both CB and LB, however, still have big-time needs at both positions. At CB, for example, 2006 3rd rounder Ashton Youboty will get the first chance to step up and replace Clements, but he played in only one game last fall. Meanwhile, veteran OLB Angelo Crowell could slide into the middle to replace Fletcher, but that's probably a stretch for him, plus it leaves a gap on the outside. The Bills could also use an early pick to add a big-space eating DT to shore up a run defense that was shredded last fall; Darwin Walker who came over from Philadelphia in the deal for Spikes should help inside, although like the other Bills' DTs isn't very big. It would also help the DT if rotation if 2006 1st rounder John McCargo can come back after missing the season with a knee injury. The Bills could also look to add some depth at a number of positions including WR and TE, as well as the offensive line. Primary needs: RB, CB, LB, DT, WR, TE
