They both went to Cal and Merz has some great things to say about Lynch.

"That first year Marshawn was on the field we actually did a lot in our scheme that made the backs do a ton of stuff," said Merz. "We'd slide our protections and he'd be picking up defensive ends and that's asking a lot. In man protections he'd have double reads and he was good with all of that. In terms of understanding it I don't think he ever had any problem with it. Our offense was pretty complicated. He definitely got a lot better at that."
"That's not him," said Merz. "It hurt me when I heard all those accusations came out because it seemed like people were trying to get a piece of him. He doesn't deserve that. He's always been good to the people that have been good to him. He's always been good to his community. It was kind of tough on him."
