BILLS -- B-
They're in the recycling business. They had a perfectly fine little running back, Travis Henry, and they recycled him for Willis McGahee. McGahee was doing well, and then they recycled him for the current top draft, Marshawn Lynch. Who knows? Maybe somewhere in some high school in West Virginia there's this big kid just waiting to ... you know. You can keep drafting this way. It's called marking time, and if this were all there was to the Bills' roster, their grade would be down somewhere in half moon land. But the trade-up for LB Paul Posluszny makes some kind of sense, and the third-round choice, strong-armed QB Trent Edwards, is intriguing, although I can't understand what kind of competition they're trying to set up between he and J.P. Losman. And here's the pick that really gets me excited. Seventh round -- TE Derek Schouman, whose workout numbers absolutely blew away the competition at the combine. I just have a feeling about this guy.

Five solid Day 2 picks
2. Brandon Siler, No. 240 to San Diego: Siler left Florida early coming off a stellar junior season which was capped off with a BCS title finish. Yet, while defensive mates Reggie Nelson, Jarvis Moss, Marcus Thomas, Ray McDonald, Ryan Smith, and Joe Cohen were all scooped up in the first six rounds, Siler slipped to the seventh round. He's a former SEC Freshman of the Year, and a three-year star in college football's toughest conference. Big game experience, leadership, and a BCS championship ring on his resume — he could end up vying for Donnie Edwards' old spot in San Diego's defense next year.
4. John Wendling, No. 184 to Buffalo: Some draftniks had Wendling rated as high as a second-round pick. A physical freak of nature (he has over a 37-inch vertical jump), who's great in coverage and can hit, he still slipped to the sixth round on Sunday. With rookies Donte Whitner and Ko Simpson both playing safety at a high level last year, Wendling offers ever more young depth to the position.
(raph notes: just interesting what they said about siler...)

Buffalo Bills: This is not necessarily a complaint about the players the Bills drafted because running back Marshawn Lynch is very talented, linebacker Paul Posluszny was considered a first-round talent and quarterback Trent Edwards was highly regarded by many. However, you have to wonder if the Bills did a lot of checking into Lynch's background, given the character issues, before they used a pick this high on him. Even more, Lynch is probably going to like Buffalo's weather as much as former back Willis McGahee. That said, if the Bills get four or five good years out of Lynch, who cares if he likes it there?
Grade: B+

Several things will take place now that the draft has ended. The first thing is that 32 teams will hit the phones trying to sign undrafted free agents. Fifty undrafted free agents made Week 1 rosters last year.
Then the draft grades will come out in the Monday morning papers. Last year, Buffalo was given an F, but it turned out to be one of the best. Fans, if you're down on your team's draft, don't be worried. Teams' drafts tend to turn out better than the so-called experts think they might be.
