That is pretty funny that they think Pat is someone important and actually knows what he is talking about.

Per Pat's article, I agree that we have a habit of giving up too much on draft day. That is the one glaring weakness I have seen out of OBD the last two drafts. Now, the Lions might not have budged at the prospect of the Ravens pick and our 2nd, but you'd have to know that first. If they offered that and got turned down, so be it. I just hoped they tried that first. Last year with McCargo was the same. We overpaid for him on draft day, too. I agree with the mantra that you should "do what you have to do" to get a guy you really like. I'm just saying you shouldn't do more than you have to.

          squirrell71 said it best...

If the points on the chart were to even out, then why the hell would one make the trade?

I half agree- the problem is when you need DT's as bad as we did last year and LB's as bad as we did this year, and all the FA's who would be an improvement are gone, our FO is not in the driver's seat in the "trade up" scenarios. Whoever has what we want is pretty much free to set their own price and put us in a "take it or leave it" scenario.

The one major flaw in Pat Moran's argument: if we were considering taking Poz at 12, the 12th pick is worth 1,200 points. That more than covers the 130 point difference in the draft value chart.

                .

one other point tto add is if someone offers you exact value for something you desire to keep then in all likely hood the deal won't be made. Sweeten the pot some and the deal gets done.

In the case for trading up for Poz regardless of what we did in the offseason, is we had to offer a more then chart value. Hell most every draft day trade involving picks saw teams giving more then chart value to move up. When you look at it that way the Bills actually got a bargain in comparison to what other teams were paying.

Not much respect for you on BB.com either:

"Guys, Pat Moran is nothing more than a pinhead that claims to know what he is talking about. He is no smarter than anyone here. He is just a fan, he is no writer or anything. He is just some shlub that writes a blog on foxsports. Don't take anything he says seriously."

                  "m-o-r-a-n or m-o-r-o-n?"

"I think you spelled Pat's last name wrong, it should be *****."

Maybe there are some smart people over there.

Why can't some people understand that the 'value' that ESPN, draft guides, fans, etc. put on a player, is not necessarily going to be the same value the Bills put on them? Why is that so hard to grasp?

I'm not saying the Bills are always right, and everyone else is always wrong... but 99% of the media's opinions are just the regurgitated opinions of other people in the media, and at the end of the day, it means absolutely nothing.

                            Anybody read TMQB

Trade Watch How did some draft trades play out on the infamous value chart? The Bills-Lions transaction looks like a value-chart loss for Buffalo. To exchange pick 44 for pick 34, Buffalo gave Detroit pick 74 -- a high third-rounder to move up just 10 slots in the second round. The value chart says Buffalo surrendered 680 points to receive 560 points. Comparison says Buffalo was too generous too, since to move up from the 36th pick, in the second round, to the 26th choice, in the first round -- also a rise of 10 slots, but to higher ground -- Dallas gave Philadelphia choices 87 and 159. But Buffalo really wanted Paul Posluszny and was calling everyone at the top of the second round. There is no obligation to trade; most teams in that area weren't selling, so the Bills had to make their offer irresistible. If Posluszny is as good in the pros as he was in college, no one will ever miss the third-rounder Buffalo expended.
It is arbritrary, and means nothing. As far as I can tell the draft value chart is a waste.
You think you're hot **** in a champagne glass, but you're really cold diarrhea in a Dixie cup!

Bingo! Why is that so f'n hard to understand??

People make it sound like any team can trade at any time, with any other team, AND without having to 'make it worth their while'.. or like Detroit was the first team the Bills contacted, and well, since Ralph is from Detroit, he just felt like giving up more than he had to.. you know, just to be a nice guy.. WTF?
