View Full Version : PFW says Lynch will be a bust

Predictions for all 32 1st round picks, Boom or Bust:

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Draft+Extras/2007/edholm050307.htm

12. Buffalo — RB Marshawn Lynch — Prediction: Bust

There’s enough talent to suggest he can have a good year or two, like Willis McGahee did, but I think Lynch’s problems will lie elsewhere. His character has been considered a little different by some NFL types, and he might not ever work out in Buffalo. And like McGahee, he could end up with another team after 3-4 years.

Those NFL types that are questioning his character are probably Cincy & NE. They'd rather have the actual shooter in the drive-by.

No chance, he has to much talent. You could see in his PC he was thrilled to be in Buffalo and he wants to be a pro football player. You can't underestimate how important that is.

The Answer agrees - and The Answer is getting tired of people comparing Lynch to McGahee.

From reading the rest of the article though this guy is way off on a lot of picks.

The reactions to Buffalo's drafting of Lynch have been fascinating. I don't know that I've ever seen such a wide range, from "total bust" to "he'll be in next year's pro bowl." Just about everybody has a strong opinion on him too.

wow i guess multi dimensional threats that can run catch block and even pass out of the backfeild are useless to a team in need of a rb, he seems eager and willing to be here, and also would the same be said if he was drafted by NE, or Philly, no they would be like a perfect fit a good back for years to come, ****ing bull**** assessement if u ask me

I'll bet anyone Lynch runs for more than 990 yards THIS year as a rookie; and he wont even be a full time starter, especially not early in the year. He'll be brought along like Maroney was for NE

The article is very biased to say the least - and yes teams like philly, NE and indy - no matter who they draft will all be studs according to this.

Honestly - The Answer sees Lynch as a better overall back then AP the more he thinks about it.

24. New England — FS Brandon Meriweather — Prediction: Boom
If there’s a defensive scheme that allows a gambler like Meriweather to succeed, it’s this one. If the Patriots can win with Artrell Hawkins, Michael Stone, et al at safety, certainly a guy with great ball skills such as Meriweather can be a productive pro.

There is a difference between playing on the Patriots — veteran roster, leaders all over the place — and on the Bills, who lack a veteran identity right now. Very young team. They lost Fletcher, Spikes, Holcomb, locker room leaders, and McGahee won his way by getting himself traded away.

I love Dick Jauron, but I am not sure the Lynch thing will be a great fit. Who knows? As you point out, it’s almost impossible to guess how these guys will fare. Right now, all 32 first-rounders are hits, you know? But we know that won’t be the way it works out.

Thanks for writing.

It's really hard to argue with this...

especially since it doesn't even really make any sense.

What's he talking about? A little different character? Huh? He might not ever work out in Buffalo? What does this mean? He might not exercise in Buffalo, or "things won't work out?" Rumor has it that Lynch is going to live in Buffalo, and things "might not work out" for anybody.

"His problems are going to lie elsewhere." Great. So he's a good player, but something bad is going to happen. Lightning is going to strike him, or he's going to rob a bank? Is this writer putting a jinx on us, or did he have to write some BS tidbit about every player in the first round, had no idea what to say about Lynch, and just made something up?

I know the author of this article has a cloudy crystal ball, but I don't need a crystal ball to know that this guy is already a bust as a writer.

Actually, the writer made the obsevation that only 27% of first rounders succeed, therefore he was trying, albeit, poorly, to predict the ones who would fail. By sheer numbers, 24 players in this first round draft class will statistically never be anything more than a second stringer! In that vain, we can only hope that Marshawn Lynch is one of the survivors, so to speak, and NOT one likely to bomb!

You should do some research before you resort to name calling and judging books by their cover. UW disrespected his team and Lynch stood up for them. They also didn't mention in the article that he ran 22 yards for the game winning TD in OT on two bad ankles...

"To be able to suck it up and play injured like he did when we're in that situation, I complimented him after the game of what a performance it was," Cal coach Jeff Tedford (http://nfldraft.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=565) said. "The first thing out of his mouth was, 'I'm just trying to do my best to help the team win.'"

Despite those impressive numbers, perhaps Lynch's most memorable play of 2006 occurred when he commandeered a golf cart after an overtime win against Washington. Before the game, Huskies players did calisthenics on the Cal midfield logo, incurring Lynch's wrath.
"He was so into that game," Tedford says. "So when he saw the keys in the golf cart, he thought he'd go pick up (linebacker) Desmond Bishop, who had sealed the win with an interception. When Lynch couldn't find Desmond, he just celebrated with the fans.
"That's Marshawn — fun-loving. He was a very popular guy on our team."
The golf-cart stunt surprised those who knew Lynch, because he abhors calling attention to himself. Before the season, when the Cal sports information department planned to promote Lynch on a computer mousepad, he balked.
"I don't like it," he said.
"Why not?" assistant media relations director John Sudsbury asked.
After some back-and-forth, he pulled it out of Lynch: He didn't want the school to distribute anything featuring his image.
But Sudsbury gave it one more shot. "What can we do instead?" he asked.
"If you put my teammates on it," Lynch said, "that might be OK."
There wasn't enough room on the mousepad for everybody, so Sudsbury asked, "How about the three tailbacks?"
Lynch said it was fine — then immediately went to find teammates Forsett and Marcus O'Keith for their approval. The Golden Bears ended up producing a mousepad called "Tailback Triple Threat."
"He doesn't want to be in the limelight," Forsett says. "Thinking of us like that made us feel special. It showed he really cared about us. But that's the way he is. He's a humble guy and makes you feel like you're important, even if you're a fifth-stringer. He's somebody you can say is your true brother."
