I know this has already been discussed. But would somebody fill me in as to why our best defensive player has dropped 20 pounds and is now lighter than Craig Nall?

To get quicker and faster?

Craig Nall called him a "fatty" last year.

thats realllly light for a DE. He's down to linebacker size, just to put it into perspective, KGB is 247, and he is considered really small for a DE, and AS now weighs 5 pounds less than he does.

If it gets him to the QB faster then I'm all for it.

The Bills Webmaster made a typo when updating roster and never caught it.

I haven't see any reports showing he actually lost weight other than Bills roster.

i hope your right, cause i dont like the idea of a 243 pound DE

Just because hey weighs 243 lbs in the offseason don't mean that's going to be his playing weight. He still has to go through the offseason workouts, minicamps, training camp, and preseason. With all that muscle built up he'll be around 255-260 by the beginning of the season.

it has to be a typo. I dont care what anyone says Schobel wont put on 20 pounds of muscle in a matter of 3 months.

I agree man.. for his body size & type, to lose 20 lbs goes way beyond any normal offseason weight fluctuation.. unless he was deathly ill and couldn't eat for a few weeks.. It's got to be a mistake.

Maybe he hung out with McGahee and picked up some of his traits?

We'll know in seven to nine months if this is true.

I think you got it backwards. When they workout during training camp in the summer heat, a lot of players LOSE weight. Every year there are stories of linemen losing 10+ pounds in a single day.

Chris Brown reported his weight and commented on it. It's right.

if he lost fat only, that would be awesome.

maybe he was working a lot on cardio early in the offseason, and now he's back to eating healthy and hitting the weights.

I remember him commenting on it and saying he thought it was getting blown way out of proportion.. I don't remember him confirming it (not saying you're wrong - I honestly don't remember what else he said)

I've worked out my whole life and it's almost impossible to add 20 pounds of muscle in a year, let alone 4-6 months.

It coud be possible that he was once on steroids, and now is off them-He is a very good player(the only good one on defense imo),and it would be a shame if he was only good because of the steroids, like bruce smith (allegedly).

This is the 1st time I am hearing about Schoebel losing weight...are they possibly moving him to LB or something?

Maybe he was approached to do one of those yogurt commercials, "...It was an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot..."

The only thing I can imagine (if this is true) is maybe the FO or coaching staff asked him to get to LB weight to play on the strong side. Perhaps they were going to give Hargrove or somebody a chance at DE.

Schobel is a pro-bowl DE so if that is the case or some variation of the case anyway, it was a pretty bad move imo.

I think the reigning league MVP, Jason Taylor plays somewhere in the vicinity of 245 lbs. and it doesn't seem to cause much of a problem for him. By the way, for a number of years KGB was pretty good at chasing QB's.....

Michael82
05-07-2007, 02:38 PM
maybe they think that it worked for Jason Taylor who is only 255lbs with a 6'6 frame. So why not have Schobel become 243lbs and 6'4? :idunno:

Either way, it was not a typo. It's all over the Bills homepage. They updated all of his weights on the site.

Usually, players have it in their contract that the team can't make him do something that could be detrimental to his earning power. I can't believe his agent would think this is a good idea.

However, I love the idea of giving Hargrove a shot at starting at DE.

hargrove played some DE last year and will likely play it this year as well- we have a lot of DT's and I think it would be a good decision to keep Hargrove because he's a decent back-up at either position.

It was the article that talked about our DL weights going up and down...Tim Anderson was reported at 328lbs too!

Maybe moving Scobel to SLB, with Poz MLB, and Crowell WLB will allow us to understand why Kelsay and Denney are making the money they were signed for. One starts at RDE and the other at LDE this year(with Hargrove rotating in for both).

Seems like a great idea to turn the franchises best pass rusher into a coverage linebacker!!! I really hope that is not the plan.
