Kyle Young from Fresno State might have a chance to make the team. I saw him play a couple of times; he is a monster. Too big for a center, but maybe a guard.

last I heard, we had 75 on the active roster and there is a max of 80 for camp. So if that's still the case, it's a safe bet that 5 of these guys will make it to camp, but I'd be shocked if any of them made it any further

i think Marv likes big centers, they r trying to convert Merz to C and he was 345lbs and 6'5, but G is always an option too, i like the LB from Minn he can run

Kyle Young
BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter awarded All-Conference honors after his sophomore and junior campaigns. Suspended for the final four games of his senior campaign after he stopped attending class.

POSITIVES: Tall, strong, small-area blocker who's been durable and productive on the college level. Effective with the shotgun snaps, fights throughout the action and keeps his head on a swivel. Good with his hands, gets them up into defenders.

NEGATIVES: Lacks footwork, lateral blocking range and ability in space. Does not play with great balance and cannot adjust.

ANALYSIS: A physical lineman with terrific size, Young offers potential at either guard or center. Likely will slip into the late rounds yet has ability for the next level if he refocuses.

entering last season Kyle Young was the top C prospect and now he is being invited to a rookie camp with no guarantee of signing a contract....i hope he shows up in shape and shows us he can get better

More analysis on Kyle Young:

Strengths:
Has terrific size...Extremely strong and physical...Tough and aggressive...Stout at the point of attack and will not get pushed around...Has a nasty demeanor and a killer instinct...Versatile...Durable...A hard worker and coaches speak highly of his intangibles...Excellent awareness and a high football IQ...Has a lot of experience.

Weaknesses:
Not a great athlete...Lacks top speed and quickness...Won't do much in space or get to the second level...Is not light on his feet...Has short arms...Doesn't always play with great leverage...Won't be a fit for every scheme...Intelligence an issue?

Notes:
A four-year starter...Was suspended for academic troubles in November of 2006 and missed the remainder of his senior season...Could also project to right tackle or guard at the next level...A classic mauler...Similar in many ways to Minnesota Viking Ryan Cook...Not quite the pro prospect many thought he would be earlier in his career but he is a very solid player who could excel with the right franchise.

I hope he puts enough into it to make our PS. He might be a good project to develop for when Fowler retires...

Young was rated a mid-6th rounder by Scout.com, way ahead of Christian Gaddis, whom we've already signed as an UDFA.

The one guy with absolutely no shot: Perry Patterson. As a 'Cuse fan, I can tell you he really sucks.

We keep hearing from coaching and managment that they're content with the current roster, yet we se moves such as these. I don't know if this is a competition beef-up thing or not, but most of the positions on that list are ones that I would consider possible "problem areas". This tells me the staff see this as well but won't openly admit to it.

Is this post serious? Sorry but unless you have all-pros at every position, you can stand to improve. And that means looking for players anywhere you can.

Exactly. These kind of signing happen every year to fill out a roster, also hope to snag afew stars in the rough.

:jawdrop: Wow, this kid is nasty. He can hit, he can wrap, he can cover and he as some wheels. Did I mention that he can hit? Seems like a perfect Tampa 2 LB. He needs to work on catching pitches though, but I guess that's kind of hard to do when you're about to pulverize the RB. :snicker:

NFL | Mohring works out at Pro Day
Sat, 28 Apr 2007 00:26:14 -0700
Gil Brandt, of NFL.com (http://www.kffl.com/link/156), reports Georgia Southern LB John Mohring (http://www.kffl.com/player/17124/nfl) measured a height of 5-foot-11 7/8 and a weight of 232 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds and 4.63 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.29 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.95 seconds. He measured a 34-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-5 broad jump and completed 23 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

Here's some articles on him. One is on how the staff for the Bucs were pretty impressed.

What happened in Tampa? It seemed like Gruden and LB coach Bradley were really high on this guy.

I believe this is a "we need warm bodies to beat on in camp" thing rather then a move to shore up depth on what will be the regular season roster.
