funny.. doss is the last of the 5 safeties.. hamlin is #2.. this is about the hitters though.. not cover safeties.

Shutdown Corners
1. Terence Newman, CB, Kansas State (5-11, 185): A gifted all-around athlete with phenomenal recovery speed (he'll run 4.3's). Newman has more than adequate size and is a multidimensional player. He's also worked at wide receiver and on the return game. He's a Champ Bailey-type, shutdown corner.

2. Marcus Trufant, CB Washington State (5-11, 186): A very experienced player, Trufant was a game-changer at Washington State. During Senior Bowl week, he had phenomenal practices that augmented a heck of a college career.

3. Sammy Davis, CB, Texas A&M (5-11½, 177): Davis flashed first-round ability at various stages of his career in College Station. He's played a lot of football against some big-time receivers and has showed up big in key games.

4. Jason Goss, CB, TCU (5-10, 188): Excellent ball skills with 12 career interceptions. Goss is tough and very competitive. He gets the maximum out of his ability.

5. DeJuan Groce, CB, Nebraska (5-9½, 187): Since everyone is using 3-4 wide receiver sets, teams need their nickel corner to be a great cover guy -- that's exactly what Groce will be asked to do. He'll be a Ray Mickens-type, excellent nickel corner. And he'll also help out as a punt returner.

Heavy Hitters
1. Troy Polamalu, S, USC (5-10, 209): Pete Carroll has raved about Polamalu's ability and performance. A rugged hard-nosed kid, he's like having an extra linebacker. He's a great in-the-box safety.

2. Ken Hamlin, S, Arkansas (6-2, 205): He's got a nose for the ball and a ferocious hitting style. Hamlin had 132 tackles, forced four fumbles and broke up 10 passes last season.

3. Hanik Milligan*, S, Houston (6-2½, 203): He's a tackling machine for the Cougars. A junior, Milligan had 174 tackles in one season. His production has been off the charts.

4. Terrence Kiel, S, Texas A&M (5-11½, 198): Throughout the course of his career, Kiel has delivered some bone-jarring hits. His ability to strike a blow in coverage makes a lasting impression.

5. Mike Doss, S, Ohio State (5-10, 199): Doss is an outstanding all-around safety and a very instinctive team leader. He shows up big when needed with a game-changing play. A heck of an all-around safety.
