NEW YORK — One pass. One ballot. One induction.

Former Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie said his election into the College Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday in his first year of eligibility means, "I guess I did more than just throw one pass."

Flutie, the 1984 Heisman Trophy Winner, was elected along with 11 other players and two coaches, including Penn State's Joe Paterno. Flutie will always be remembered for one of the most famous plays in college football history — his 48-yard "Hail Mary" touchdown pass to Gerard Phelan as time expired for a 47-45 victory over Miami. "That was the play that signified my career. When people think of Doug Flutie that's what they think of," he said.

However, Flutie's body of work goes far beyond one pass. He still holds nine Boston College records, including career passing yards (10,579), and played 13 seasons in the NFL and eight in the Canadian Football League. He became the first non-Canadian elected to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

"My whole life of being the little guy and having a little chip on my shoulder from year to year, trying to prove myself and at the end of the day being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame is a very special honor for me," said Flutie, who recalled being told by an Ohio State assistant coach that he was not a Division I quarterback because of his size......

I remember that Raiders Monday night game as if was yesterday. 1974.

O.J. goes down early with an injury and Fergy is forced to throw more than planned. 2 over the middle slants to Rashad for TD's, the last with 13 seconds left to beat the Raiders 21-20. I don't know if I ever heard a louder roar in the stadium, when he caught that last pass. Rich Stadium went insane.

It was the only MNF loss inflicted on the Raiders for over a decade
