Yahoo Sports: Ranking the AFC Defensive Ends

    6. Bills. The Bills have a pair of high-motor starters in Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay. Ryan Denney, who subs in for Kelsay on the left side, is a physical player with improving pass-rushing skills.

    TOP 5 AFC DEFENSIVE ENDS
    1. Jason Taylor, Dolphins. He is one of the most explosive pass rushers of his era. He's 32 but likely will maintain his high level of play for another year or two.
    2. Richard Seymour, Patriots. He draws double-teams and makes those around him more effective. When he's playing to his talent level, he dominates.
    3. Dwight Freeney, Colts. His speed and explosiveness make him a matchup nightmare for tackles, but he must find new ways to deal with the constant double-teams.
    4. Trevor Pryce, Ravens. He tied his career high with 13 sacks in 2006. He uses his length and athletic ability to make plays that many ends can't make.
    5. Aaron Schobel, Bills. He was the biggest beneficiary of Dick Jauron's move to an attacking 4-3 scheme last year -- he made the Pro Bowl.

i completely disagree with freeney.. he looked like absolute garbage this year.. 3 of his 5.5 sacks came in one game.. 2.5 over the other 15.

wow.. if that doesnt say superstar.. i dont know what does.

Re: Yahoo Sports: Ranking the AFC Defensive Ends

The funny thing here is that Freeney is so fast that when he attempts to rush the QB sometimes he leaves a big hole that the running back is able to explode.

Stats can be very misleading, I watched several Colts games last season and I think Freeney is a top defensive end.

This is my top 10 defensive ends list:

        1) Jason Taylor
        2) Aaron Schobel
        3) Julius Peppers
        4) Osi Umenyiora
        5) Trevor Pryce
        6) Dwight Freeney
        7) Jared Allen
        8) Terrel Suggs
        9) Derrick Burgess
        10) Leonard Little
        11) Robert Mathis

John Abraham, Adewale Ogunleye, Aaron Kapman, Richard Seymour, Gregg Ellis, Bryant Young, Mike Ruckner and Kyle Vandenbosh (sp?) are other notable defensive ends IMO.

Also I would really like to mention both Tamba Hali and Luis Castillo as they could eventually enter in the top 10.

Peppers is the best DE in the league at playing the run. And he's more explosive off the line.

Anyway, against the pass you could say Schobel is better but yeah... I made a mistake, overall Peppers is a better defensive end.
