I got to meet him at shooters on the water during his playing days, I was like just 20 years old at the time and figured out I could sneak in through the docks where the security was lax at best. I was walking and talking with Jim Kelly and he walked right up to Bruce smith. Bruce made us both look like children and I got to shake his hand, mine being like a childs in his. It was the first day that I realized that even though I could toss a ball 60 yards accurately, there was another factor waiting for me on the other side of the line. Bruce was wearing a purple shirt that night and it had to be a XXXL easy and it was still tight on him. I nor anyone in their right mind in the bar that night would tell him that was a odd color on him or anything like that, I'll assure you of that. Andre Reed showed up later and as I recall those boys stayed around for more than one drink. I heard rumors about them going out the night before SB 25, I believe them.

That is no joke, I have a great story about Bruce Smith putting a manager I worked for up against a magazine rack because our store wouldn't cash his mother's out of state check with no ID. It was a good one.
