OTTAWA (AP) -- Sabres general manager Darcy Regier says he expects to begin contract talks with Buffalo stars Chris Drury and
Daniel Briere as early as next week.
Regier tells The Associated Press that he and other team officials are still conducting their end-of-season analysis of the Sabres, who were knocked out of the playoffs last month.
Regier is in Ottawa for today's N-H-L general managers meeting. He says he's confident he and Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff will be
back to lead the Sabres next season.
But the futures of co-captains Drury and Briere aren't as certain. Both are eligible to become unrestricted free agents on
July first and the Sabres have yet to make known their plans for attempting to re-sign the pair.
The Sabres won the Presidents' Trophy as the regular season's top team but fell short again of reaching the Stanley Cup finals.
