OTTAWA — Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier and coach Lindy Ruff are expected to sign contract extensions in the next several days while turning their attention to keeping co-captains Chris Drury and Daniel Briere, Regier said today.
Regier said after the NHL general managers' meetings that new deals for him and Ruff were formalities.
The completion of the Stanley Cup playoffs is expected to ignite serious talks with Drury and Briere, both of whom are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents July 1. Regier reiterated today that he would like to keep both.
