This was posted over on a Cal football site. I thought it was an interesting quote. I agree, you guys drafted a keeper. He will be a future Pro-Bowler, guaranteed.

Here's a quote from Thurman Thomas on a writeup about being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

He still follows his old team, the Bills, and he likes the first-round selection of running back Marshawn Lynch.

"I love his running style,'' Thomas said. "I didn't realize how fast and big he was. I know they are talking about spotting him at first, but I think he has the ability to play every down, and I think he'll prove that to the coaching staff.''

We made the right choice.

That's cool..

and Thurm agrees with me.. He aint going to be an everydown back from day one.. I think he starts slow and works his way into a more predominant role.

and thats fine. Careers aren't based on rookie stats. Let him grow a little bit.. A-Train is a capable vet who can handle a certain amount of responsibility.

do you have difficulty fitting your head through normal sized doorways?

:snicker:

regarding thurms comments.. the more and more i listen and watch, i love this pick.. i really feel completely confident that lynch is going to be a beast, and wright is going to be an awesome secondary back..

hopefully we have the old thomas / kenneth davis 1 2 punch.

Even if Peterson had still been on the board I would have said Lynch.

Peterson's only advatage is his 40 time. everything else that makes a great running back belongs to Lynch. Lynch's change of direction is just downright sick. clinton portis?

Peterson's running style will lead to a short career.

Thurman called me the other day and we both agreed on Lynch's running style, while I felt that he (Lynch) would avg. 20- carries a game, Thurm (that's what us peps close to him call him) thinks he will avg around 15. Well, got to go, Jim Kelly is at the door!

He'd better attain to everydown back by midseason. He's a 12th overall. It's fully expected. Plus, Thomas definitely ain't an everydown back. It shouldn't take much to supplant Thomas.

Thomas will serve as a comfort zone-ee for Lynch allowing him to transition into the role over what hopefully will only be 4-6 games. If that doesn't happen then it's likely not good thing for Lynch and therefore us.

Lynch > Peterson, everyone else.

We made the right choice.
It was a weak draft for RBs to be sure.

I'm sure a lot of fans are curious to see how Peterson plays too.

One of my biggest concerns about Lynch is that as his number of carries went up from season to season from his frosh to Jr. seasons, his yards-per-carry decreased questioning what others have, namely whether he is capable of carrying the ball 300 times coupled with receiving duty.

Valid concerns to be sure however.

While is YPC may have decreased, his ablity to catch the ball out of the backfield and his TDs all went up.

If I had to take a wild stab at why his YPC dropped to a little over 6, I would say that after a couple of years in the same conference, teams played them a little different than before as to reign in his explosiveness.

I think it's pretty common sense that if his carries go up his YPA will go down.

If he had 200 carries and still had 8.8, I'd be worried of a drop to 6.1....

...worried that he became mortal.

You certainly can't expect someone to average almost 9 YPC! Yeah, his YPC decreased to a crappy 6.1, but I guess we'll just have to live with that.

I guess people look things differently... The thing that jumped out at me the most in those stats was 0 FUMBLES in 558 touches (490 carries, 68 receptions).

The kid doesn't put the ball on the ground.
