When the walls come crashing down!

Well now we now know when the Aud will be demolished, it will be sometime in Sept. Mayor Byron Brown and Larry Quinn met in front of the Aud this afternoon and Mayor Byron Brown said "that the Aud will start to be demolished sometime in September. The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp has told him that they're ahead of schedule and almost all the esbestos has been removed." "The alternative is to do nothing and that is unacceptable," said Larry Quinn, harbor development corporation vice chairman. The Aud is being razed for a parking garage to service Bass Pro and other lower Main Street projects and also keeping another portion open for potential new developments.

The Aud was built in 1938 and was Home of the Sabres from 1970-1996

A bit of sadness in that news... saw many a game in that building. Still, good to see the city is finally moving on.

It is toxic and an Eyesore. Loved the memories there but knock it down already. These preservationist ******s block any attempt at development in this city. Just like the Hotel on Elmwood that would have helped grow the area greatly.

As big as the shell of the building is, I'm surprised they couldn't convert it to a garage instead of knocking it down.

They did talk about that. It is so toxic and decripet at this point it would cost 10 times as much to do any kind of renovation than to just knock it down and start from scratch. When they are talking about millions of dollars in a bankrupt city can you blame them?

you can't implode it because the metro-rail runs right beside it on main st.

I went on a little recon mission around the aud today and snapped some pics. That little person in front of the Aud is me. I wanna get inside before they demolish it.
