View Full Version : Do You Have Confindence in Rian Lindell?

In 03-04, everybody hated Lindell. I remember calling him our greatest liability, which was saying something at the time. Some people kept talking about his decent kicking percentage, but we kept punting instead of attempting the further kicks...in 2004, he only attempted 4 kicks of 40-49 yards and only made one. The coaching staff was babying him, and I'll always believe that.

That was the big thing - people thought he couldn't make the further ones. But for the past two years, he has been able to be respectable with the further ones. Now, it's whether or not he is clutch. He hasn't showed me that he is... If the Bills had won the last two games of the year last year, they would have made the playoffs...and he acts like a pussy in the second to last game (the Tennessee game). We're behind by one point with time running out, and he pussied out. If you are a kicker on my team, I don't want a sense of uncertainty in your eyes if you have a chance to win the game for your team in that situation...we were on the Titan's 28... Then he comes back later to explain that the ball needed to be 3 yards closer. I gotta tell ya, I have no confidence in a guy like that. You should WANT to kick that ball. 3 Yards???? With the season on the line?

Again, he has made 1 clutch kick in four years (correct me if I'm wrong), and we're still babying him. I remember the announcers during that Tennessee game. One of them was Steve Tasker, and if anyone knows more about Special Teams, I'd like to know who that is. Anyway, Tasker was absolutely shocked that we didn't even attempt that kick. He said that it was a given to try the kick, that it wasn't even a question. Blame Jauron or Lindell (they probably both deserve blame), but do you want the season to rest on this guy's leg? On his head? And if we needed three more yards, what is Jauron doing throwing the ball on second and third (and then 4th) down?

We could have gone into the last game of the season with a chance to go to the playoffs if we won. I don't understand it.

Take the poll.

Id prefer to a new kicker to be honest, although its not high on our list of priorities. The TEN game along with not really seeing him get a ton of height or distance on his kickoffs really doesnt sit well wtih me.

You are absolutely right. What's the deal with those pooch kicks? I've always wondered if they were designed to be short kicks or that Lindell just has a weak leg. How many times has he forced the opposing team to kneel down in the endzone for a touchback on his kickoffs? It seemed like we consistantly kicked the ball to the 15 yard line (on his better kickoffs). What is up with that?

Could be worse...average kicker seemed solid mid range..but his long distance is nothing...but again we were spoiled with Mr # 2

You guys slay me! Weak leg?

2006- 2 of 2 from 50+, and 23 of 25 total.
2005- 3 of 3 from 50+

Because he had the sensibility to tell the coaches he didn't think a long shot FG into a big wind was makeable he is suddenly a liability? It never flippin ends around here with the negativity.

Didn't your username used to be LindellSucks ? If so, Holmes doesn't need to be called in on this case.

Making that fieldgoal was a lot more likely than getting a first down on 4th and five.

In all, 8 fieldgoals were attempted in that game. Guess how many were made. That's right. All of them. Eight attempted field goals, and 8 fieldgoals made. Let me get this straight...a 45 yard field goal is a long shot, but a 42 yard field goal isn't? And if we had 2 plays to make 3 yards, why did we throw it twice? I blame Jauron. That game was basically a playoff game, and we totally ****ed up. Jauron should have made him try the kick.

And if Lindell has such a strong leg, why does he never seem to kick the ball in the endzone or even come close on kickoffs?

Believe me, I am generally positive about this team, but I just don't think that Lindell is clutch. Until he proves otherwise, he's a baby.

Lindell is a very competent kicker who has been very accurate, and made all of his kicks over 50 yards, the past two seasons. I admire him for being honest about that kick into the wind. He was down on the field and knew how bad the conditions were.

I'd like his kickoffs to be deeper, but all-in-all, I think he does a damn good job.

I think his leg is played out.

He did a lot of off-season work a few seasons back, to strengthen his leg, etc...but I no longer trust his strength or accuracy.

He's getting up ther in age, which is why I think his skills are in decline.

If we're in a couple close games this fall, and he misses a few, this will be his last year here.

The Bills will give LSU kicker Chris Jackson a chance to be a kickoff specialist.

Lindell is playing in the worst possible stadium for kickers. The Ralph usually has strong winds blowing across the field, from the home side towards the visitors bench. If kicking towards the scoreboard, you have to aim for the left post and play a fade.

I often wonder how Christie could stand playing here but he mastered the place. Lindell seems to have found the proper line and accepted a 2nd contract here after being frustrated initially. It also helps having Schneck and Moorman performing their jobs perfectly.

I don't mind him being honest and telling the coaches he couldn't make that kick in the Tennessee game.

I'm pissed that he missed that kick in the Indy game.

He's shown continuous improvement during his tenure. I have no problem with him and give him even more respect for having to kick in Buffalo.

I gotta agree.

He's not a top 5 kicker in this league, but he's a lot more consistent than most.

I'd rather have a kicker who can pin the ball deep on kickoffs and have the leg to kick a 55 yarder with the game on the line.

But he's one of the least of our problems.

So you think it's perfectly reasonable that he thought he needed 3 more yards to make the kick? 3 yards? We were eliminated from the playoffs in that moment, you know. Again, three yards? That's what pisses me off...3 more yards. You don't need to be 100% positive that you can make that kick, but you have to try because everything depends on it. That how I feel about that.

I wish we woulda kept shane Grahm but the Bengals were smart to get him after we let him go
