Doesnt make sense to take 2 QB's IMO, I would take

1-Brady-Most important position in football and dude is just a winner, no matter how much you hate him
2-LT-Unbelievable talent and along with Brady gives defenses fits
3-Walter Jones-forget about whoever the rush end is for that opposing D
4-(warning may contain homerism) Jason Taylor-Every D needs a dominant pass rusher and JT is it.
5-Champ Baily-Shutdown corners are hard to find and he is one, also has great hands and is a ballhawk.

Of course this gets complicated if you start thinking about age of players and are trying to build a young team that will be competitive for a long period of time in which case Jt misses the cut, probably Jones too.

Good thread. I'm assuming by the Top 5 you mean if you could have ALL five of the players on your team?

NFL
1- LT- complete back can make any QB look better.
2- Tom Brady- Despite last year, better proven big-game performer.
3- Brian Urlacher- Would quarterback any defense and any scheme.
4- Tommie Harris- Once healthy, most dominating DL in the NFL.
5- STeve Smith- Though Im very tempted to say Calvin Johnson, who's going to be Moss and Owens wrapped into one minus the attitutude.

MLB
1- ARod- If he was anywhere else he'd be a hero. He can do everything.
2- Jose Reyes- Baseball's newest and best table setter.
3- Johan Santana- Absolute freak.
4- Vlad Guerrero- Can do it all at plate and a sick arm in the OF.
5- Mariano Rivera- Yes he's old, but if I need 3 outs in the clutch, its still him

NHL
1- Sidney Crosby- Not only is he great and a big name, this guy is tough as nails and not scared of corners and in front of the net. Love this dude.
2- Robert Luongo- best goalie in the NHL, period.
3- JOhn LeCavalier- Sniper
4- Chris Pronger- Suspensions in playoffs aside, the best and most intimidating defensemen in NHL.
5- Chris Drury- Totally clutch and will also go against your top center.

NBA
1- Lebron James- Absolutely has to be.
2- Steve Nash- makes the ENTIRE team better.
3- Tim Duncan- money when it matters
4- Dwight Howard- Rebounding machine.
5- Dwayne Wade- Versatile and fearless. Can be as effective scoring 12 points or 40.
Narrow miss: Deron Williams is going to be the next Jason Kidd.

He fits my team...this is picking a team. I would also like you to tell me what's wrong with a player that shoots 50% from the field, 90% at the line and 41% from 3, scores about 25 PPG, and gets 9 RPG playing above the foul line.
Maybe i should pick Garnett, but Nowitzki fits better. Thank you.

Shaq looks arthritic.

Although Im no fan of yours, great minds (semi sarcasm) think alike.. I barely beat ya to having TOmmie Harris on my list also.

And I do like your list, but it confirms my confusion about the thread altogether. I dont know if he means Top 5 as in you can have all five (if so, obviously you dont have 2 QB's or goalies on your list)- or Top 5 as in one pick and your #1 is your first choice, #2 second and so on.

My only disagreement is with Lunquist at net for the NHL. I dont think so, not yet. Although he is often spectacular, I think the Sabres exposed him as a goalie that can get beat a lot high.. I think Luongo is a much more complete goalie, at least right now.

Anyone who left Albert Pujols out of their top five in baseball needs to take another look at this 27 year old, and what he has done in his first 6 years.

He's down a little this year, but he's still one of the best young hitters this game has ever produced.

No doubt, personal feelings are mutual, but Tommie Harris is an absolute stud. We must have been posting at the same time.

I disagree about Lunqvist, I think he arrived last season and that is who I would take. It came down to him and Vokoun, I think he can be a great one. If the Rangers didn't have him they wouldn't have been anywhere near the playoffs. I picked Luongo as #1.

I took it is as the top five (in order) you would take to start a team.

Haren is unbeatable and is going to be the best pitcher in baseball as soon as this year. Ortiz has been in the top 3 in MVP voting the past two years. And Beckett gets run support up the ass which explains for his undefeated record. Peavy plays in the NL which is 100% easier than the AL. Next

Beckety may get run support up the ass, but his era is 6th in the AL...its not all on the O.

However you are spot on with Haren, the dude's stats are out of control, as he is in the top 5 in the majors in every important category for a pitcher. When the Red Sox (or Yankees) get him, he will dominate even more.

Baseball, you starting a team you take all the good young pitching you can get.

no order: Peavy, Beckett, Haren, Hamels, Hughes

You will win a long time with those five on your team.
