Buff News - DiGiorgio Makes Case to Start

I have heard his name mentioned quite a bit in the OTA reports, but I don't see any way they can't have POZ in the middle:

John DiGiorgio beat the odds last season to make the Buffalo Bills’ 53- man roster as an undrafted rookie free agent from a Division II college. With London Fletcher leaving via free agency, DiGiorgio has his sights set on taking over at middle linebacker.

But there is one obstacle standing in DiGiorgio’s way: Paul Posluszny. The Bills traded up in the second round to get the highly touted Penn State star, who is the heir apparent to Fletcher.

At the very least it is good news to our overall depth.

      Fletch was a UDFA, too

Re: Buff News - DiGiorgio Makes Case to Start

He has made quite an impression with his quickness and playmaking ability. He’s instinctive and diagnoses plays well. He also has been solid in pass coverage, recording a pair of interceptions and breaking up a couple of other throws.
“When you look at the tape he’s always around the ball,” Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said. “He’s always in the frame; he’s always in the picture. You can’t help but talk about him because he’s always there. That’s something that we see and we like. We’re always saying, ‘This guy hustles to the ball every play. He’s around the ball, he’s getting interceptions or he’s picking up a fumble.’
“He’s always doing something to get himself noticed every day.”
DiGiorgio is in the second year of this defense and seems to be following the curve of significant improvement by a second year player. This is a great test for Poz and will only help bring him along. It looks to be a great battle come training camp and like Thurm said, overall depth is definitely looking better.

We can never have enough depth. There's nothing better than having some no-name, undrafted on your team who ends up having a huge impact.

The options are to make him a backup with an eye for making him a starter next year, consider moving to the 3-4 or at least playing it a lot, or having Poz take Ellison's or Crowell's spot.

Looks like Crowell already nailed down the SS. If DiGiorgio holds on to the middle, Ellison could be the odd man out.

As of now DiGorgio is listed as the MLB starter on Bills.com, although I thought a couple of weeks ago it was POZ.

it will be very disappointing if Poz doesn't start.

Yes, it just changed this week. Webster also moved to the top of the depth chart.

Tell me about it. If Poz doesn't start it won't just be disappointing -- it'll be ridiculous too.

I think there's a little overreaction here by the neggies and the posies.

How often do rookies start from day one of camp? Rarely.

How often do scrub no name guys get cut after having impressive camps? Often.

really not sure where you got that from- everyone in this thread seems pretty calm and reasonable to me. I don't think anyone is overly excited or overly pessimistic.

It never hurts to have more depth at any position, I hope he does well for us.

I think this story is blown out of context, starting right from the article itself.

DiGorgio barring injury ain't starting. That's no knock on him either. Poz was traded up for because the Bills believe this will be HIS defense. Lets hope DiGorgio continues to look good, because God only knows how poor our LB depth is right now.

Definitely a positive though to potentially have a LB who can come in and play decent. Most teams dont go through 16 games without losing a LB to injury at some point.
