View Full Version : Favorite moment of a football game.

I was thinking today that there are single moments in football games that I love to watch. Whether it be an incredible stiff arm by an unmentionable ex-bills running back. The way that Kelly used to run the no-huddle and read a defense and he was walking up to the line with that swagger we all loved. Or maybe just the crowd noise as the kicker is running towards the tee on the opening kickoff!

I enjoy watching a QB drop back in the pocket, read the defense, target a guy who is covered, look off the safety then throw it deep down the center to a different guy running a post pattern from the backside that is wide open!

What is yours?

when a WR is running a post pattern and gets leveled by the safety right as the ball gets there. It's even better when the ball pops up in the air and gets intercepted by the CB.

Honorable mention: a defensive stop on 3rd and short or 4th and short, a blind-side hit on the QB that jars the ball loose.

The BIG HIT!
When the guy's laying on his back, with his nose sticking out his earhole of his helmet, with a big snot-bubble, and the hitter standing over his latest kill, just
shivering from the joy of the feeling of really laying the lumber on someone.
It makes you jump out of your seat, and go " Ohhhh...." He got JACKED UP!

That feeling in the 4th quarter when all facets of the game has been owned by the Bills and you get that feeling like we can just score at will. Every touchdown compounds itself with total jubilation and you shake your head thinking "My God we're good today!"

Even better when that day comes and it happens to be snowing and its Miami that is on the losing end.

I love it when a screen pass is set up perfectly, and you can just tell that as soon as the RB or WR catches it, he's going to run a long way behind his blockers.

It's been a very long time since I've had that feeling, probably since the SB years. Lately even if we're up by 10 points with 2 minutes left, I still sit in the edge of my seat worrying that we can blow that lead anytime.

In fact, I don't breathe until maybe 2 seconds left and we're winning.

or actually even better.. a perfectly thrown ball to the sideline or back or the endzone resulting in the dragging of the foot.. often times reviewed because it was done so good. i can remember one of my favs was 2 years ago i think it was indy vs the patsies on sunday or monday night, and harrison caught a ball fantastically in the endzone that by anyone else would not have been caught

Back to back huge Bills gamechanging plays, usually an offensive-defensive 1-2 punch, like a big offensive touchdown followed by a INT return on defense for another score, now tell me that scenario doesn't give you the chills just thinking about it, the Ralph is so alive when that happens

Sgt Kurt Shultz's leaping over a leaping WR from behind and taking the ball without even touching the opposing player. You could see the coach and WR arguing with referee it MUST be interference but you could see the referee pointing to big screen showing clearly that he leapt over the leaping player. Tremendious body control and focus by Shultz on that play.

Tasker's mauling and misdirection of Miami Defense in playoff game, Beebe's determination to take back ball from Lett in Superbowl and Jimbo's punishing of a WR who DARED to take away ball would be other ones.

2 things:
1. Jump Balls that QB's throw up for grap when its one on one or one on two coverage and the WR makes an amazing catch

2. Seeing a safety read a QB's eyes the whole way and then jumping the route and picking the pass off

all great choices.

I love when a QB reads a blitz coming, and calls an audible that results in a first down.

I love when a RB finds a tiny whole, makes a great cut, is almost tackled at each turn but each time breaks free and runs up the field for 30-40 yards.

I love great time management. Using all 4 downs when necessary and driving up the field chewing up small yardage at a time, for a touchdown, not a field goal.

Taking up 10-12 minutes in a single drive.

a great play action pass.

team's rolling down the feet on the legs of their running back and line.. the defense is starting to flinch... from the pounding they're getting. you can see it in their body posture, and then how the whole defense reacts to pulling guard, the qb's hand out there.

while a WR strolls down the field as if bored... then bam... the qb ***** his arm back and the WR is running a fly in open field.

A blocked punt or field goal....A successful onside kick. The ten yard pooch straight up the field against Houston in the Comeback when the team set up a wall and Christie recovered from behind is one of the most well-executed plays of all time.

My favorite moment is when the opponent is backed up against their own goal line and you are right behind the quarterback sitting in the 100 level of the endzone and you know it's your job to scream and shout as loud as you can and do everything within your power to screw up the play and help cause a safety!

Safeties in general are great
QBs sacked for losses/fumbles (Trace Armstrong meeting Flutie in the playoffs and seeing his o-lineman try to put toegther what just happened)
goal line stands (1.against Indy in Indy from a bit ago where they tried to rush Edge in all downs and got turned away 2.home opener against Denver when there was actually 5 attempts that were stopped since a penalty that didn't affect the play gave Denver another chance)

I agree. A game/momentum turning INT is awesome!

Imagine being down by 6 with 1:34 remaining in the game. The winning team is driving for the FG to put the game out of reach and all of a sudden BAM!!! Your CB picks off a pass and returns it 60+ yards for a TD. Extra Point wins you the game!

I'd rather be on the other side of the coin.

The winning team is driving for the FG to put the game out of the reach and all of a sudden BAM!!! Your WR pulls the double move on a greedy CB and takes it all the way for a TD. Game..set..match! You can see the pride sucked right out of that CB as he's on the sideline with his head down. Poor 'playmaker' became toast.
