Not trying to be a wise ass but you guys know me...

Looking back at these polls I would say that almost nobody should ***** in the next couple of days if Drury is offered/signs for $7 mil or more (since he probably will turn down the $6mil/year Sabre offer) and Briere is offered/signs for $6 - $6.5 (since he turned down the $5mil/year Sabre offer) mil or more, correct? We won't see any threads screaming at the FO, DR or LR about not paying players, right?

Good.

I mean I hope they sign here too but since almost nobody here wanted to pay them that much then why should the Sabres.

I'll be *****ing that we could have locked up Briere for less a year ago.

I won't ***** about Drury...I've maintained from the start we should just open up the vault for him.

If we lose Briere I won't *****, but if we sign him for more than 6mil per I'll whine a little bit.

The funny this is that they finally offered him the exact same contract that he wanted last year, this week.

If only Darcy would have done that last summer. :sigh:

And people would have *****ed that 5 million was too much for a long term commitment, just like they said the ruling was too high.

So basically, it is *****ing regardless.

Would Briere been as motivated this past year if he signed a 5 year contract?

I guess that gives me the right to ***** then because I thought the deal for Briere was to much and he turned it down. Of course, I have never been a big fan of Briere. Drury, even if I love his heart and soul approach isn't worth 7 mil. I think you let them walk, do what you can with incoming 2nd tier free agents, then shoot for a top name next year when players like Thornton, Iginla, Heatley, Lidstrom, Naslund, Marleau, Hossa, Legwand, and Redden hit the market. The free agents available this year are OK, but being a weak UFA shopping list, our boys are held in high regard. The truth is this crop of UFAs isn't that great.

There's no reason to think he wouldn't have been. By that reasoning, no player should ever be signed to a long-term contract.

NOT me. To me honestly both of these guys are not worh $6 + million dollars. Just my opinion I don't think they will do as well on another team. The Sabres system works well for very fast guys. The sabres have a very deep system in Rochester and I think they have a plan for some free agents ( I HOPE) for some size and physical play for this team. To be honest the Sabres are a bunch of PUSS**besides Peters, Mair, Gaustad, and Kaleta, and it showed in the playoffs. I guess we will have to live with out both of them and theres nothing we can do about it now. BOTTOM line both of these guys should have been locked up over 2 yrs ago......WHOS fault is that!!!!!!!!

No *****ing from me....I have to agree with previous posts....it's just too much money to dump into a couple guys. Last time I looked there were more than just a couple people sitting on a hockey bench...yes they are very good players, but if they are surrounded by mediocrity or worse, it means nothing. Everyone said it was 'our year'. ...well that didn't happen and if we mortgage our future for 2 or 3 guys and it still doesn't happen...we'll spend another 5-6 yrs completely rebuilding....

Briere deserved close to $6MM in Buffalo and IMO better will sign for more than that with someone else. He said he would give the Sabres a discount so if he sign for around $6MM then he was all talk about the home team discount. However if he thinks and gets $6.5 or more somewhere else then more power to him and the Sabres can't pay that much for him since they won't even get close to spending to the cap.
