    Bills safeties have CB's backs

Our Caesars Sportsbook Promo Code 'USBETCZR' offers all new players at Caesars Sportsbook online sportsbook and mobile app up to $1,100 as first-bet insurance.

Before Jason Webster inked a contract with the Bills in late May, many observers questioned why general manager Marv Levy didn't nab himself a cornerback during the 2007 draft. The answer they're forgetting is that he scored one the year before.
Ashton Youboty's family issues may have kept him from contributing anything last season, but the truth is that there was no need to spend another pick on a corner when there was already a 2006 third-rounder on the roster.
Given Levy's track record with his first draft as G.M., it's strange that some thought the franchise might be a little light at corner going into training camp. Folks should at least wait until Youboty is given the chance to strut for a few weeks in Pittsford, N.Y., where the Bills hold camp, before secondary-related panic ensues. And there are three reasons not to panic even if Youboty -- a former Ohio State star -- flops:

a couple of problems with this: McGee sucked at CB in 2004 and 2006- his only good year at CB was 2005. I don't know how this guy can say 2006 was an abberation when McGee is 1 for 3.

As far as safety help, it's gonna open up the deep ball if other teams pick up on the safeties cheating in to help the CB's cover. They'll just run 3 or 4 receiver sets, or use a TE as a receiver, so they can flood the zone and keep one underneath while sending the other deep.

As far as Youboty- whether he's good or not we really don't know. But on week 1 of 2007, we are weaker at CB without Clements than we were with him. Even if Youboty turns out to be great, it's going to take him time to learn, and who knows what kind of hole we'll dig ourselves into during that learning curve.

I do agree with the author on Webster- hopefully he can bring the stability we need.

I agree with Op's comments on McGeem, he has never really done much at CB, if he can just be solid I'll be happy.

When I read the names on our defense on paper I honestly like what I see. I think Kyle Williams is very underrated as is Keith Ellison. Those two especially Williams should be very solid in my opinion. The only spots that worry me a little are Tripplett because of his lack of production until the latter half of the year, and POZ just because hes a rook. I think Webster and Mcgee can at least be solid and not give up to many big plays. The other thing that I think is important to focus on is how much better our defense will look with an improved offense. Less time on the field is a must for our D this year. I think the Offense will improve dramatically this season and put up some big numbers which will take a little pressure off the D.

I swear, the guy writing for the bills on realfootball makes me look like a nancy . Well, not quite.

After Wendling and an interest for Darius, really makes you wonder though that Fewell wants more emphasis at the safety position to help out the cb's.

Actually, I think 2004 was a good year for McGee as well as 2005. 2003 was his rookie season where he only played in 8 games and 2006, well, we all know what a disappointing season he had.
McGee's 2004 preformance was overshadowed by Clements' stellar year.

This defense is not tailormade for McGee, but he should still be able to have a solid rebound from last year.

In a cover 2 its the job of the Safety to come over the top of the CB. So "cheating over" is actually what their job really is. They have from the hashes to the sideline in coverage. This is why the MLB is so important in the cover 2 because he has whats between the hashes.
