The last two years in a row, it's been in the 60's.

Around the horn and pti were rippin Buffalo, saying there is nothing going on at that time of the year in buffalo, how they try to stay away from buffalo. I do have to admit that the date is stupid. No chance they compete with ncaa football that day. just another reason hockey blows and i will never again watch it

Playoffs I guess is always possible, but HOSTING ONE? That is very unlikely.

I am pretty sure the Bills are in Philly that week. Last game of the year.

It'll be played on a rink like the one they play on, they're not going to hose down the field :snicker2: and the 60's is perfect drinking weather
If this happens, the fans will pack the place!:bandwagon

Actually, the Sabres schedule appears to be set up to accomodate not only the January first date, but also a date in February as well. The Sabres host the Penguins on January first at 1 o'clock (no confirmation on the venue) and also host the same Pittsburgh team on February 17th, a Sunday at 1 PM. It looks as though, if the logistics pan out, this event will happen.

Let's not forget that Ryan Miller has been down this road before. The Michigan State vs. Michigan game was held outdoors in October back in 2001. Here's a youtube video that shows the rink and you can clearly tell that it's not a bad day weather wise.

Also, here's a good story on the game and it mentions now ice crews had to tend to the rink carefully due to unseasonably high temperatures

So, unless there's a monsoon or a blizzard, weather shouldn't be much of an issue.
