View Full Version : Clayton: Schedule makes Miami a sleeper

4. Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins have all the makings of a team that should make a dramatic jump. Their .512 schedule should play out a little easier than expected. Technically, the Dolphins play the easiest schedule in the AFC East, and the tougher schedules played by the Patriots, Jets and Bills should drag down the overall record of their opponents. Miami's non-common opponents are the Raiders and Texans, both winnable games. Most of the Dolphins' tough games are at home. Just going off schedule adjustments, Miami could end up with a .477 schedule, which could make it one of the easiest in the AFC.

The move to get Trent Green should push the Dolphins over 20 points a game, which puts them in range for a dramatic improvement. RB Ronnie Brown should have his best year working with Cam Cameron. Despite advancing age, the Dolphins ranked No. 8 in overall defense last season. What the Dolphins can't do is get lured into thinking they've totally turned everything around. Next year, they play the AFC West and NFC West, which should make for a tough 2008 season.

You would think by now people would learn. Every year Miami is the sexy pick, and every year they blow.

And what offensive line is going to run block and pass protect?

Calyton is trying to save face after picking Miami to win the division and the AFC last year.

How did that work out ?

I don't know. Just passing along what Clayton says. I'll believe it when I see it.

A little over a year after writing, in an article titled "Don't expect great things from Mangini, Jets in '06", this (http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2509705):

2. The truth is that Nick Saban, who learned NFL defenses under Belichick, will catch or pass the Patriots in the next year. If Daunte Culpepper continues to make his miraculous comeback from triple knee ligament surgery, the Dolphins could catch the Patriots this year. The Patriots are showing signs of slowing down, even though they should win 11 games with a much easier schedule than they had in 2005. Except for Tom Brady and Richard Seymour, the Patriots' roster is running out of Pro Bowl-caliber players. In contrast, Saban is assembling a big, physical team and has a quarterback in Culpepper who can compete with Brady. Saban surprised many by winning nine games as a first-year coach. Coming out of LSU, Saban was about as sure a lock to be a successful NFL coach as we've seen in the past 10 years. He's bright. He's tough. He devises winning game plans. He's building a winner in Miami. The Dolphins-Patriots battles should be good for years with Belichick and Saban going at it. Saban can't get too lax, though, because the Patriots had a good draft. If Miami slips for a year or two, the Pats will be back challenging for the AFC East.

That was one of his "undeniable truths" last year.

Weren't the Dolphins supposed to win the Super Bowl last year?

C'mon man, everyone except for Bills, Jets and Pats fans were drinking that kool-aid. Saban hadn't had a losing season ever at the time. He's a pussy now, but he was a God back then and was a building a strong team to everyone else.

Wait, the media has a Florida sized chubby for Miami??? NO, you MUST be kidding

Isnt this the same media that thinks Hillary Rodham-A-hole should be prez because he-she was once married to Bill Clinton? Turns out Ronnie Brown's sluts are better running backs than he is because they banged him.

Two things to say:

1) Miami is at the bottom of the AFC East and no more than 5 off the bottom of the league
2) Theres only 1 #23 thats worth a damn and he plays for our very own red, white, and blue!

The fins have one thing going for them, the temperature. If they can steal a few games because of the heat / their opponents poor conditioning they may win 4 games, at best.

"Late hits" on Sirrius was drooling gobs of goo over the Bills and how good they might be this year.

At this point everybody is a playoff team.

My sleeper team is the Pats.

Im saying if Hillary is worthy of being Prez cause she married Bill and he was prez, then Ronnies sluts ought to be better than him cause they banged him.

Its ******ed, I wasnt thinking that hard at the time, but hopefully funny.

sounds like the offseason is so football-boring that the media and some fans will say anything to try to make excitement.

Bling simply bit the hook that Clayton tossed out there.

Thanks for the clarification, makes sense now. It is kind of funny. Reminds me of the time a few years ago you were going back and forth with me about how Tom Donahoe might actually be a porn star and some other related illicit comments.

it wuldnt suprise me if they did become the sleepers. just the fact that they have a decently better qb starting makes them better than before

LMAO

and Bling had the whole hook line and sinker when he made this thread. He reeled in a lot of Bills with this thread so far and the expected responses , lol.

Seriously, I'd rather the media talked bad about the team. I'd rather be the under dog team, then the hyped up one. When has the media ever been right besides when something has already happened?

I remember, it was 2003. The Fins won 10 games that year. When was the last time the Bills won 10 games?

Not gonna happen. Miami is still gonna finish 3rd or 4th in our division. Even though Trent Green brings stability to the QB position there are still too many other holes to fill.
