Tom Donahoe told the Rochester D&C that the Bills are unlikely to re-sign unrestricted free agent Chidi Ahanotu. Donahoe said the signing of Keith McKenzie puts Chidi on the outs.

If our 3rd best DL last year is not gonna be on the team its a good sign our DL is getting better.

TD obviously thinks that McKenzie and Jones will both be better than Chidi.

Bummer. I liked Chidi. He wasn't a superstar, but he was a solid player. I figured he'd be a good reserve player for us this year if nothing else.

Yeah, I liked him too, he'd be really good for depth at vets minimum, too bad.

I liked the guy but it's actually a very good sign that GW is cutting him. He was solid if unspectacular so it means our young guys are ready to contribute more.

Kind of a two way street for me here. I like Childi, good veteren that puts in his days hard work and is always in the line up. He had a solid season for us last year and I can't knock him for that. I would hope that they at least take a look at him in camp this year. Even if our young talent doesn't workout we would have that option.

As to McKenzie, other than McK being only 30 vice 32, I see very little difference. If he starts this year it's only gonna leave us wanting at that position. I have assumed that McK was brought in as depth, not to start.

I don't understand not bringing Chidi back. It never hurts to be able to rotate guys and have solid players with fresh motors available in the 4th quarter. Chidi was much better than say, Ryan Denney last year.

Denny is already under contract, we would have to Resign Chidi. You cant put too much money into DE. Denny, Aaron, Mckenzie, Jones, Irons, Plus im assuming a highly drafted rookie(round 1 or 2) thats alot of money to be pumping into one Position that i expect all to make the roster next year. You cant say the same for DT(we also have 6 DTs under the current roster) but that includes Richard Seals, Tyrone Robertson, Omari Jordan, and Justin Bannan. How many of those do you expect to make the final roster? One, Maybe Two.

Chidi would have been worth keeping another year. I'm not sold on McKenzie. At least we know Chidi's capabilites and perhaps backed with the appropriate personnel, he may have improved.

I see McKenzie as a pass rushing specialist from the LDE position. I see Jones and Schobel rotating at RDE. The problem is I don't really see anyone who looks like they can be a solid run stuffing LDE on first and second down. Irons? he has to have improved an awful lot. Denney? Give me a break. I hope the draft yields something. Otherwise, I think that will be a clear weakness for the Bills heading into next season.

I thought the plan was to have Jones and Schobel start - Schobel at the same position as last year and Jones on the other side. It doesn't make since to have what will likely be our two best ends rotating. I don't buy this he can only play one side stuff. This is a totally different defense than TB.
