Jets pursuit of Kevin Johnson hits snag

    Mar. 18, 2003 4:51 p.m.

The New York Jets’ pursuit of Cleveland wide receiver Kevin Johnson went cold Tuesday when Browns president Carmen Policy said the chances of dealing Johnson — or any of the club’s wide receivers — were “remote.”
Johnson, who led the Browns in catches in all four of his seasons with the club, had been mentioned as a possible acquisition for the Jets if they fail to match Washington’s qualifying offer for restricted free-agent Laveranues Coles.

They have until 4 p.m. (EST) Wednesday.

“The chances of this organization dealing one of its receivers is remote,” said Policy, “and I say ‘remote’ only because you never want to say ‘never’ about anyone. But there’s just no consideration that’s been given to it at all.”
