1. Peyton Hillis-Arkansas-6’1, 235lbs
Hillis may be the most important FB in College Football as he is responsible for protecting not only on running plays for both Darren McFadden and Felix Jones but also providing protection for McFadden on trick plays. Probably the best pass catcher in this class.
2. Owen Schmitt-West Virginia-6’2, 250lbs
One of the more versatile FB and also a devastating blocker, Schmitt is in the Mike Alstott mode as he opens up big holes and explodes into his targets. He can also tote the rock as he ran for over 100 yards and 2 TDs versus Georgia Tech in the Gator Bowl.
3. Jacob Hester-LSU-6’0, 228lbs
Hester led the Tigers in rushing last season with 440 yards on the ground and moves to FB to try and pace the way for impressive Sophomores Keiland Williams and Charles Scott.
4. Michael Pitre-UCLA-5’11, 240lbs
Pitre paves the way for returning senior back Chris Markey who rushed for 1100 yards last season. He is also used in UCLA’s west coast offense and could see more action this year.
Key Games: Oct. 6 v. Notre Dame, and Dec. 1 @ USC
5. Doug Jones-Cincinnati-6’4, 282lbs
FB from last year at Cincinnati will move to TE this season as he hopes to improve a pitiful bearcat air attack. He will likely move back to FB for the pros and is a good blocker and he may emerge to have good hands as well.
Key Games: Oct. 6 @ Rutgers, Oct. 13 v. Louisville
6. Micheal Cox-Georgia Tech
7. Carl Stewart-Auburn
8. Justin Valentine-Minnesota
9. Rashaad Norwood-Kansas State
10. Matt Hahn-Penn State
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not the most exciting position in the world but if somebody doesnt emerge this year we may need to begin to consider this position. Thoughts?
