The image featured in this post, as was stated, is just for fun. But to clear things up, I wanted to add the screen grab in the comments to the actual post as an update. As you can see, there's a very clever watermark in the image proving its lack of authenticity as far as that goes. I'm trying not to spread rumors here, but the trick is reading what gets posted along with the pictures.

That looks like the logo that was created about 5 years ago by a fan and never came about. I highly doubt this is true.

i think in the future i could see the sabres switching to that...... but for the time being were stuck with the slug.......

although the islander debacle years ago comes to mind... there's always hope ;-)

anywho...... im just excited for the upcoming hockey and football season... :-)

Contrary to popular belief, the new Sabres logo is well liked by a good portion of fans. It's just the fans that don't like it scream and cry about it every chance they get while the fans who do like it shut up for the most part.

I remember hearing this last season when the Sabres unveiled the new uniforms. The NHL has put in a rule that teams can't change their jerseys for 3 years because of so many teams changing their uniforms it was like every year teams were changing their jerseys or logo.

found this on Chris Creamer's sports logos forums,

The Sabres will be darkening the blue on their b&g 1970's jerseys (the third jerseys) to match the home jersey & shorts. Makes sense since Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn said this in his press conference when the new logo was leaked and fix the logo.com petition site was made before they unveiled the new uni's. All third jerseys are supposed to return to the NHL in 2008-09 season that's what the NHL is telling us.
