Report: Vick Plea Deal Could Include Year In Prison

    POSTED: 9:59 am EDT August 16, 2007
    UPDATED: 11:23 am EDT August 16, 2007

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Virginian Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Va., is reporting that federal prosecutors are offering Falcons quarterback Michael Vick a plea deal on dogfighting charges that would require Vick to serve at least one year in prison.Sources have told CBS 46 that Vick has until 9 a.m. Friday to accept a deal or face new charges in a superseding indictment.Vick’s two co-defendants, Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace have already agreed to plea agreements and are scheduled to appear in a Richmond courtroom for a plea hearing Friday. The two have reportedly agreed to testify against Vick if the quarterback’s case goes to trial in November.
He should probably do something smart finally and just take the year, if he doesn't agree to that, he's getting more charges thrown at him and he's likely to do more time, especially with his buddies all set to rat him out now. Looks like we'll see how smart he actually is by tomorrow morning.

so, will Goodell let him serve his one year suspension while he's in jail, or will he have to sit out a year once he's a free man?

If he's gone for two years, his career is basically done. He relies too much on physical talent and not enough on football smarts as it is.

This is what interests me most about all this, what the NFL will do in response.

          yeah take the deal

he might be tempted to take the oj route and spend all his dough to avoid jail but if he does that he might still lose then not make another cent

no football. no endorsements. no palace. and no mo dog fightin income

if he just serves his year he can keep most of his bling and if hes lucky still play a couple years in miami

I'm trying to stay out of the smack talk, too much of it going on already! Plus Mikey's cool with me... I can't piss him off, I gotta sit next to him at the game!

I would not be surprised if his NFL career is over...He would of been better off with a mansaughter charge than what he is accussed of. Every animal rights activist will go after the new team if he ever signs on with an NFL team after serving his time and they will hound that team and bad mouth that team until they cut him. Goodell probably knows this too and I would not be surprised for the good of the league he gets at least a 2-3 year ban at minimum.

Re: Don't Drop the Soap Mikey!

The thing is if he takes the plea bargain, he is admitting guilt and taking whatever medicine is handed out, hoping that it won't be too bad from a personal and profesional standpoint. (jail/football)

If he doesn't take the bargain, he goes to trial where more charges are going to be brought against him, not to mention that there are a couple of his friends that have already taken deals and have to testify against him if called upon to do so. He could beat the rap and keep on truckin' or he could be found guilty and basically what that does is delay the inevitable.

However if he choses to go to trial, he doesn't admit guilt, even if he is proven guilty, he never has to "admit" guilt.

Remember when Goodell called him into the principal's office and Vick told him that he had no knowledge of the situation? Well if he takes the plea bargain and "admits" guilt, he lied right to the face of his boss. He can kiss his career in the NFL goodbye.

Either way, at a minimum, he will miss 2 seasons and will have a hard time catching back on in the NFL so ... he is pretty much ****ed.
