Simon - Why would the Bills not even consider taking a look?

It seems he has started to make the rounds and the Titans are looking at him. If healthy (big if), but if he is, then the Bills would be stupid not to at least bring him in and take a look.

How do we know the Bills hadn't already looked at him? Given the relationship between Marv and Polian I'm sure they already talked about it.

because the front office is happy with giving up 150 yard rushing a game.. that is the only reason i can think of.

Where did the Colts rank against the rush when he was playing for them?

I don't exactly remember them being all that much better than they were without him (and they were dreadful like us), but I could be wrong.

The Bills were reported to have been monitoring his situation and the prgress of his health earlier this off-season. I would be surprised if they have not at least been in touch with his agent recently.

Given that he is reported to have some kind of rare arthritic condition, it's possible that he might want to check out some places that might be a bit warmer--and, hence, perhaps easier on his arthritis--first. On the other hand, the Bills might be more concerned with finding a DE to replace Denney first before they talk with Simon.

There are a lot of possibilities that could be impacting the situation.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.

He missed all of last season, when Indy had the worst rush defense in the league, (and one of the worst ever) giving up 173 rushing yds/gm and 5.3 yds/rush (although that improved in the playoffs).

In 2005, with Simon playing in the first 13 games , Indy gave up 96 rushing yds/gm and 4.1 yds/rush.

After Simon was injured in 2005, Indy gave up 169 yds/gm and 5.2 yds/rush in their final 3 games.

                  In Summary:

                  With Simon (first 13 games of 2005): 4.1 yds/rush

                  Without Simon (last 3 games of 2005, all of 2006): 5.3 yds/rush

I'd say that was a pretty dramatic impact, although I'm sure there were other factors (Bob Sanders getting hurt for one) and stats can be deceiving.

Simon is garnering interest in Minnesota as well:

Unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension with Pat Williams, the Vikings appear to be exploring their options in case the veteran nose tackle signs elsewhere following the season.

According to an NFL source, the team has inquired about Corey Simon and might attempt to set up a visit for him.
Minnesota HC Brad Childress was in Philadelphia when Simon was there, so there is a tie. However, the interest in Simon has been tepid, which is probably due to teams being worried about the knee problem and subsequent athritic condition he has suffered. He is a talented player, and if he were healthy he would be signed already, IMO.

Looks like the Titans are close to working out a deal with Simon:

                      LINK

Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said he has "a good chance" at signing former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Corey Simon.

Reinfeldt said he expects Simon to make a decision in the next day or so. Simon visited the Titans on Monday and had a physical.

"The visit was very positive," Reinfeldt said. "A lot of things happened that were good indicators.''
