For a 4th round pick.

Two thoughts come to mind:

1) I guess the Redskins weren't happy with the replacements they had for Dockery.

2) The Jets are looking to start either journeyman Adrien Clarke or rookie 6th round pick Jacob Bender (of Nicholls State, where they ran the triple-option). Bender gets first shot, starting their preseason game this week. Yikes.

The Skins must be desparate because OL has to be one of the hardest positions to learn a system since you really need to know what is going on and pick up the right defender or else risk getting your QB killed. Not much time for him to learn a system.

Looks like it is a conditional 2009 pick, not next year.

It is a 5th round pick that can upgrade to a 4th in 2009 if certain conditions are met.

That is per the:

NY Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2007/08/jets_trade_kendall_to_redskins.html)

and:

Washington Post (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/)

Wow, doesn't make Duke Preston starting at RG seem so terrible now.

What's the deal with Butler? Are the Bills just being cautious because it's preseason? Or is he really hurting that bad? I would really like to see what he can do with the first unit at RG.

Apparently, it's really been hurting him. Him and Merz both got screwed by injuries. I wouldn't be surprised if either of them were cut. I hope not though. I like both better than Duke at RG.

Butler won't be cut. I think the Bills brass was hoping he would win the RG spot. Pretty tough to do that when you're on the sidelines. We'll see!

Still, it isn't bad value considering he is 34 years old and disgruntled. They were probably going to have to cut him anyway.

I think where they leave themselves open to criticism is not giving themselves other options after they knew Kendall was pissed off. It wasn't like this was a surprise, it has been going on for months, yet they didn't stockpile depth.

If Mangold gets hurt, they are screwed. Kendall was their C before they got Mangold. Wade Smith is their backup now, and he isn't any good. That would ruin the interior of their OL.
